Held every February, the Oceanside International Film Festival is an opportunity for independent filmmakers to have their work screened along the county’s North Coast region. It also gives attendees a chance for viewing local and international cinema at a locale in Southern California known for its rich history, beautiful beaches, and unique artistic community. In 2017, Oceanside was honored as on

e of only 14 California Designated Cultural Districts throughout the Golden State. Located in Northern most San Diego county and within a short drive from Los Angeles and Orange Counties, Oceanside offers miles of sandy beaches ideal for sun-worshiping and surfing. Between screenings, filmmakers and movie-goers alike can visit the famous Bungalow House featured in “Top Gun”, The California Surf Museum, the world renowned Oceanside Museum of Art or the longest wooden pleasure pier on the western United States coastline – all located in Downtown Oceanside within walking distance from OIFF’s historic venue, the Brooks Theater(Est. 1936).

Today’s the Day! OIFF’s can’t wait to see you all at this afternoon for the San Diego Premier of & ’s THE OPENER. Doors are Set to Open at 4:30pm, with our show beginning at 5:30pm, including our cast & crew Q&A, as well as our live musical performance featuring & ! Thank you to our Community & Beyond for Supporting the Arts, Local Music & Movie Theaters.
For those still looking to purchase tickets, we may be selling more at the door this afternoon for any leftover seats we ‘may’ have on a first come, first serve basis. See you at the movies!

The Oceanside International Film Festival would like to Wish a Very Happy Birthday to Jason Mraz with the Special Announcement that we will be kicking-off our 15th Season with the San Diego Premiere of Jeff Toye & Sunya Mara's Feel Good Music Documentary, "THE OPENER". Tickets Available Now at osidefilm.org

Taking Place at The Star Theare on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, "The Opener" focueses on musician Philip Labes and his journey from street performer to opering for his hero, Jason Mraz. The film documents Labes' experience of writing 30 songs in 30 days during the pandemic, which led to him being discovered by Mraz and invited on tour. The documentary also explores the challenges and triumphs of Labes' newfound success, as well as the impact of a hurricane on the tour.

- Doors at 4:30 | Red Carpet and Lobby Reception at The Star Theatre
- Film Starts at 5:30 | Followed by a Special OIFF Q&A with Jeff Toye (Co-Director), Philip Labes (Star), and Jason Mraz (co star/producer). There might be some musical performances slipped in as well.

This Event is a Special Off-Season Fundraiser for the Oceanside International Film Festival. The 15th Annual Festival Kicks-Off February 17th through 21st, 2026.

If you died and came back, what would your art look like? Returning to the screen tomorrow is Scott Fitzloff’s masterful documentary, RESURRECTION ARTIST. In the film, Matthew, a doctor and artist drowns during a bodysurfing accident, 10 minutes later he is resuscitated by strangers but is paralyzed from the neck down. After surgery and rehabilitation, he walks out of the hospital. Once home, he must navigate a return to life with a changed body. Matthew explores the significance of his harrowing death experience through creating art, mounts a comeback to his work as an ER doctor, and sets an audacious goal to surf within a year of his death experience.
