“You don’t have a day job…” 😂🙄🤦🏻♂️
There’s nothing easy about being an artist. Friends will doubt you or disparage you behind your back. You’ll question every decision you make. You’ll be broke AF, hungry, exhausted, and broken - physically and mentally. You’ll spend more money, time, and energy working on growing, learning, and creating opportunities for yourself. People will tell you to just “get a job” and “live a normal life.”
And if you really want it, if you truly believe that your life’s purpose is music (or anything non-traditional), you’ll find a way. You’ll ignore the sideways comments. You’ll show up and put in the work day in and day out. And then one day, you’ll realize that you’re actually “doing it” and the path finally becomes clear.
So keep going. Every time someone says something ignorant about a “day job” or being “realistic,” smile and remember that you’re living a dream they can’t even begin to comprehend. Surround yourself with other doers, artists, and community that supports and inspires you.
Never forget: the only person that can stop you is YOU.
