New press alert! Excited to be featured in a new planning article on The Knot. This one is especially for folks who are getting married without help from their parents. That help might be emotional, physical, or financial. Read for tips on how to navigate the planning process, and how to make your wedding fit YOUR expectations and the traditions that resonate with you.

If a marrier’s parent is not attending because they are not supportive of the marriage, then we discuss whether the couple wants to have those roles represented by other people, or whether they want to create new traditions that work for them and best enhance their celebration.

Sometimes a parent’s support is not available because they are no longer living. If a marrier wants to honor that parent at the wedding, we have beautiful ideas on how to incorporate their memory, such as a chair reserved for them with flowers.

Planning a wedding without parental support might feel overwhelming, but it’s definitely doable with the right know-how.
