On the eve of Folsom weekend and one year after an overdose that changed everything, today I am featured in interviewed by a local scene legend in his own right, Marke B. about harm reduction in q***r nightlife, the Narcan distribution project at .4evr, and of course, some hot goss about the who, what, and where of SF’s current drag scene 📰 I am honored for the opportunity to share some of my story and to have a platform in my community for making difference, no matter how small. Every single overdose is preventable, and as always it is US who keep US safe, especially as q***r people thriving in our shared nightlife community. I’ve included pics with a few local harm redux heroes of mine, whose shoulders I stand on when doing this work. Going to that thing in the desert 🏜? Been getting DMs from folks looking for last minute harm redux resources, so you live in SF I encourage you to visit the city-run CBHS Pharmacy at 1380 Howard St (SoMa), open Mon-Fri 9am-4pm to grab a free kit of Narcan nasal spray for reversing an opioid overdose. As always, fentanyl test strips are also an option but I want to remind all you fun and flirty burners that test strips can be subject to environmental challenges such as heat and wind, and that using them isn’t always intuitive or error-free (especially in the elements). Just remember the basic truths of harm reduction: dose slowly, never use alone, and drink WATER 💦

Based on reports from folks working at the clubs it sounds like OD awareness is improving! Believe me, I am happy that we as a community are becoming more alert to potentially urgent situations. However, just a reminder: if somebody is breathing, responsive, and normal-colored (as opposed to turning blue or ashy gray in the face), then they DO NOT need Narcan. The person may benefit from being monitored, but if you hit them hard and fast without checking in first, you will probably just ruin their high or worse, send them into withdrawals which comes with its own problems. Harm reduction means we gotta let ppl do drugs, too 🖤
