Diana and Nate's mid-May wedding was a balance of elegance and playfulness.

They wanted their flowers to feel refined, but not too precious. A little whimsy, a little movement, and room for the unexpected.

Working with local flowers and what's seasonally available allows the flowers to bring their own character to the day. It's also at the heart of creating more sustainable designs. Being thoughtful about what we use, where it comes from, and how we work with it.

For me, it's never about making everything perfectly polished. It's about creating something intentional that feels true to the people we're celebrating.

A moment for the lush, scrumptious bouquet for Ella and a nod to her maids.

This bouquet was a celebration of all the best local blooms - bearded iris, ranunculus, garden roses, and sweet pea vine with a hint of nigella.

For the maids bouquets, I went with a similar palette, knowing each lady was wearing a pale yellow dress. White campanula brought together butterfly ranunculus in pinks and yellows.

Here's how we made this chuppah design happen in 30 minutes.

1. Communication. I had already talked with the couple and the venue coordinator in advance and knew that there would be a tight timeline for getting the ceremony florals in place.

2. Planning and preparation. I knew I needed to design a piece that would hold up and look beautiful for the ceremony. I also needed to plan the design and mechanics in a way that allowed for a quick and efficient setup.

3. A fantastic team. None of this happens with just me. I have a great group of people that I can turn to when I know I'm going to need help on design days and Stephanie Stephanie Heffner | Ron Watts and Tee with Dirty Blossom knocked it out of the park.

Hi. I'm Amy. The person behind Hare and Bear Co.

In a world where people tell you not to take things personally, I do 👋.

A few things to know about me:

- I am a big family person. Besides my own family of 4 (+ multiple pets), I am a sister, daughter, and lucky aunt to several nieces and nephews.
- Sourcing from local flower farmers is my jam. A full car and cold room are what dreams are made of.
- I love being prepared, and I geek out over mechanics. I'm always experimenting and running trials with different methods.
- I believe in being a part of your community and supporting the people and programs that make the community thrive.
- Learning is a love language. It's why I attend workshops and practice and create just for fun. I know I can always improve.

I think it's easy to forget people are behind small businesses and let the relationship be purely transactional. That gives me the ick.

I practice what I call "wholehearted floristry". It's about honoring time and place, and allowing seasonality to influence my designs. There's intention and thoughtfulness behind each floral design.

Two things I'm really honing in on lately. Layering and the color green.

1. ) Layering - You have to be very intentional about what you're layering or this can come off as very cluttered and messy. When you choose pieces that work with the shape you're trying to create and the color story you want to tell, your piece is more cohesive.

2.) Green is not a neutral. I think green or green foliage can often be used as a filler or to cover gaps. However, if you choose a green that does not go with the rest of your stems, then it can actually end up taking away from an arrangement. For example, if I had chosen more blue or sage greens, it would have detracted from the overall piece.

Also, sedum is one of my favorite flowers this time of year. Love the pop of color and texture she adds.

It can be limiting to use flower photos for you inspiration. Yes, they give me an idea of your style and color preferences, but there are likely a myriad of seasonal flower options you don't even know to consider. That's why I would much rather you tell me how your want your flowers to feel or how they play into your wedding or special event. ⁠

When you trust your floral artist, you allow yourself not to get caught up in a particular flower but how the pieces will come together and be harmonious.
