Norway Maine Arts Festival

Norway Maine Arts Festival Mark your Calendars for September 12th, 10am-4pm! NMAF is brought to you by Welcome to the 2025 Norway Maine Arts Festival.

Founded in 1967, the Norway Maine Arts Festival celebrates art and community in the Western Foothills of Maine. We are excited to foster a space where the greater community can come together to participate, learn, and support the Maine arts community. Art has proudly been a part of Norway’s downtown history since 1967. The Norway Maine Arts Festival celebrates art and community in the foothills o

f Western Maine and across the state. The festival showcases artisans of all kinds through art and craft vendors, live demonstrations, performances, keynote speakers, musicians, and farmers, all set within the historic buildings of downtown Norway.

This year, the Norway Maine Arts Festival is getting a jumpstart from Lights Out! We are moving the festival to the second Saturday of September, which falls on September 13th. Vendors will be tabling from 10 AM to 4 PM with more event going into the evening. We are bringing back beloved elements of the festival, including juried fine arts and crafts vendors, outstanding performers and musicians, as well as local businesses and non-profits that have been integral to this event. Together, we will celebrate the diverse creative and technical talents of Mainers.

"There's a tremendous amount of care in how the Festival is organized and you feel it in how the community shows up. It does not feel transactional, it feels so alive."
- Kristin Fuhrmann Simmons

Welcome to Kristin Fuhrmann Simmons, a watercolorist and teacher.

"I make art to connect — with the natural world, others, and myself. Living on the seacoast of Southern Maine, I am constantly inspired by the ever-changing rhythms of the ocean, the sweep of the tides, and the quiet beauty of the landscape. With its fluidity and unpredictability, Watercolor feels like the perfect medium to capture that sense of movement and wonder. How the pigment flows and settles on paper reminds me of the sea itself — wild, gentle, and full of surprises.

Art-making is both a meditative practice and a joyful exploration for me. Through my work, I seek to express the balance between structure and spontaneity, order and chaos—much like the natural world around me. I am drawn to rich, saturated colors and abstract interpretations of land and water, hoping to evoke a sense of stillness and presence."

Kristin will be conducting a live watercolor painting demonstration featuring wet-on-wet technique — one of watercolor's most enchanting methods, where pigment blooms and flows across water-saturated cotton paper in ways that feel almost alive. You'll guide the audience through painting Maine Heirloom apples, celebrating a beloved local subject with a painterly, accessible approach. Attendees will watch a full painting come together from blank paper to finished piece, and a few volunteers will try their own hand at the process.

Kristin will be selling her prints, cards, and original works at the 2026 Norway Maine Arts Festival from 10am to 4pm. Come check out her work and paint some beautiful heirloom apples with her!

Rebecca's background is in darkroom printing & analog photography, however she is not only a photographer but a painter, illustrator and a fashion designer. Inspired by the throws of life's unexpected highs and lows, Rebecca weaves together pictures and scenes of sea faring mermaids and oceanic wanderlust. Welcome to our next artist, Alexis Stefano. Combining watercolor with dry media and cut paper elements, Alexis takes much of her inspiration from the drama and majesty of the White Mountains.

"Alexis Stefano is a local self-taught, fine artist. Her multi-disciplinary creative practice combines watercolor, dry media, and cut paper elements— drawing inspiration from the White Mountains where she is lucky to be immersed in the natural world. Alexis's work explores ideas of migration, homecoming, intuition, and memory and conveys her curiosity and wonder for nature.

Originally from the Greater Boston area, Alexis graduated from Northeastern University‘s behavioral neuroscience program in 2017 and later studied graphic design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She moved to the Mt. Washington Valley in 2021 to be closer to the mountains. She has since become an active member of the arts community and is the executive director of the Mt. Washington Valley Arts Association in Conway, NH."

Alexis will be selling her prints, cards, and original works at the 2026 Norway Maine Arts Festival on Saturday September 12th from 10am to 4pm. If you want a piece that will leave you longing to visit the Whites, check out her booth!

Introducing our next vendor Summer D'Amato, painter and illustrator exploring between realms of the real and unreal.

"My work makes commentary on the world around us through my lens. Through surrealism and whimsy, it discusses ideas of change and relationships that we have with one another and the natural world.

Visually, my work is heavily influenced by the New England coastline, where I grew up. As well as my personal relationships, dreams, and events I’ve witnessed or experienced. Adding vibrant colors to create a very strange, dreamlike state, it comments on the fact that ones perception of reality is very specific and unique to themselves. My work is a window for the viewer to enter my world and see some relatable, and unrelatable aspects of life, as it can be wild and chaotic, but also still and tranquil."

Summer will be selling their beautiful work at the 2026 Norway Maine Arts Festival from 10am to 4pm. If you've ever imagined a more fantastical New England, I think Summer will be someone to talk to.

Up next is Kai Christie of Sylvatica Wildcraft. She is a multidisciplinary artist experimenting with different techniques to channel their love for and experience with nature into their work.

Kai studied biostatistics and botany at The College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, and began experimenting with botanical art in 2021. Through her art, she enjoys sharing her passion for ethnobotany, wild-crafting, and strengthening our relationship to the environment."

Our next demoing artist is Perry Johnson of Foehammer Forgeworks, a brilliant metalsmith bringing a contemporary flair to an age old artform.

"With a long time love of metal and fire FoeHammer ForgeWorks was officially formed in summer 2019. I have always had a fascination with the idea of blacksmiths and the ancient craft of taking something plain and mundane and ending with a useful tool or beautiful piece of artistry. With the forge, anvil and a large assortment of hammers chisels and files, one of a kind items are created. From hooks and fire pokers to curtain tie backs and calla-lilies we have a large assortment of hand made items from my shop in central Maine. With special focus on the shapes and flow of nature we make floral arrangements and sculptural pieces ranging from the perfect coffee table size to large outdoor sculptures.

During our Demo we will be heating steel in our small propane forge and hammering out small fiddle-head pendants on a 200 year old anvil while describing all the steps of the process and answering questions from the people watching!"

You can find Perry selling his unique metalworks at the 2026 Norway Maine Arts Festival on Saturday September 12th from 10am to 4pm. It's an exciting experience watching Perry work so come and see him (and buy some work from him!)

Introducing Whitney Gill, eloquent potter and lover of Maine's arts and artists, serving as the executive director of the Maine Crafts Association and Shop Maine Craft.

"Whitney Gill is a potter whose practice merges expressive surface work with functional form. She creates wheel-thrown and hand-altered clay vessels that function as both utilitarian objects and visual compositions. Her surface treatment is gestural and painterly, marked by intuitive brushwork, resist techniques, and a fluid language of abstract mark-making influenced by aposematism, calligraphy, and textiles. Whitney proudly serves as executive director of the Maine Crafts Association, and maintains a ceramics studio in Bowdoin, Maine."

Whitney will also be sharing a booth with Allison McKeen, selling her ceramics at the 2026 Norway Maine Arts Festival on Saturday September 12th from 10am to 4pm. Say hello to them at their booth and buy some of their pieces!
