In the calmness which settled on the snow following the past storm, the crepuscular light of the low voltage LEDS accented the snowy softened landscape at the stone entrance leading to the Great Lawn—where we welcome all—to colorfully announce that winter has come to Lakeside Norway. Merry winter to you and yours! We hope to bring further color to your winter soon! Stay tuned!

Promote what needs to be known!

I don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled recently in South Dakota.
It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.

Sometimes there are rainbows that appear over the work we are doing to make the vision of Lakeside Norway happen. What we’re doing will benefit our community, the lake and the local economy. Thank you Parent Lumber for your Maine-made wood products! Want to help make it happen! DM us!

“Some nights, I stay up cashing in my bad luck/Some nights, I call it a draw…” but some days it’s a new lawn area for social gathering; other days it is a new garage door for the main warehouse’s brew haus, tap room and intimate events venue space. Some days it feels like progress!

Please consider voicing your public support of the Lakeside Norway revitalization project; if you didn’t know about it, reach out and learn about it. We need your support if we are gonna keep going. If you understand what the project is trying to accomplish for the community, we really need you to promote Lakeside Norway.

As we transform our outdoor spaces and our historic buildings, the Lakeside Norway campus will provide additional opportunities for folks like the Maine Dragon Boat Club and the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine to build coalitions that make the world a better place.

Our 6.6 acre campus with over 1/4 mile of shoreline is currently being revamped by Pleasant Hill Property Services, LLC to capture history, protect the lake, rebuild the ecology, help grow our local economy and give the community more inclusive access from downtown to Lake Pennesseewassee. However, it’s not been easy to get this point across. You can help: spread the word!

The event aims at raising awareness of breast cancer and highlights the therapeutic benefits of paddling.

Jeff is, as usual, spot on!

1. Prioritize projects that are visible. Progress is way more fun when you can see the results. Give the streets something positive to talk about.

2. Celebrate your accomplishments. Stop being so damn serious all the time. Have some fun and be proud of the fact that you are making a difference. The community is ready for good news, even if they don't act like it.

3. Keep it social. Everything is more fun with a friend. Any project you decide to take on will be more fun with more people. Everyone is lonely and bored staring at their phones, they are desperate to create more connections.

One of my favorite events comes from Mayor Justin Hummel in Bloomsburg, PA. He started Libations and Litter (Clean Streets Bloomsburg) and gets people out on Saturday mornings to pick up trash and go drink beer. The fine folks in Growing Downtown Hopkinsville just adopted the idea as well.

Do you have a favorite project or initiative that another community could easily adopt? Something that has made a difference in your town and made things a little bit better? If so, share it in the comments so everyone can rip it off and look like a genius back at home.

A beautiful morning for Pleasant Hill Property Services, LLC to infuse a nearby lakefront property’s ailing shoreline with 200-sq ft of native hay-scented fern. Propagated from Maine growers, the fern comes in sod form as well as container pots; it is available at The Cummings Landing Nursery for retail sale.

Not only does hay-scented fern bring instant gratification to clients—not to mention to the ecology of the lake😁), this resilient green rhizome can provide effective and much-needed shoreline stabilization to deteriorating banks suffering from our extreme weather events!

Bonuses: not deer food, spreads fast, competes effectively to limit other non-native invasive plants and requires little-to-no long-term maintenance!

Check out the sunset view from one of our Alarm.com security cameras overlooking the Great Lawn! The Great Northern Docks stage gets setup next! We might make a push to have a fall concert or outdoor movie before the end of the month, so stay tuned!

The permeable custom stone flagging beer garden patio and granite retaining wall are on the docket for this winter once Stewards of Lakeside Norway are able to inspire sponsors to help purchase the materials!

So proud of two of our biggest advocates for protecting the agriculture and horticulture industries in Maine. Jason Shiers of Pleasant Hill Property Services, LLC and Jake Pierson of Pierson Nurseries, both executive board members of the Maine Landscape & Nursery Association, were able to discuss with our congressional leaders the most critical issues affecting nursery and landscape companies across the state—especially the workforce shortage! Thank you AmericanHort for hosting this important summit in our nation’s capital and organizing these quintessential meetings with our government leaders!

If you are struggling as a home or business owner to connect with landscaping companies in your area, please be patient with them! The labor shortage is unprecedented and these businesses are feeling vulnerable! No one thought that “too much work” could put independent Maine landscape companies “out of business.” Unfortunately, the threat is real. 🥲
