The best event plans always come with a backup plan… and this one proved exactly why! 😂

This tropical birthday backdrop was originally scheduled as one of those dream jobs:

✔️ Quick drop-off
✔️ Tiny touch-up
✔️ In and out in minutes

Or so we thought! 😆

Mother Nature had other plans on Friday 🌧️

The celebration was supposed to take place outdoors, but weather concerns led to a last-minute decision to move everything indoors… and not just indoors, down to the basement!

Now here’s the fun part. The entire gold shimmer wall and balloon design had been built as ONE complete unit with the balloons already attached. Literally ready to roll into place.

Thankfully, this beautiful mini-mansion had oversized doorways and a grand basement stairway that made it possible to carefully maneuver the entire backdrop downstairs in one piece. Once we got it into position, we added the tropical greenery, made a few finishing touches, and voilà party ready!

This is exactly why we include contingency planning in our contracts. Outdoor events are amazing, but flexibility is what keeps the celebration stress-free when unexpected changes happen.

A little preparation behind the scenes can make all the difference between panic and a seamless event day experience.

And yes… what was supposed to be a quick drop-setup actual turned into an adventure, but still quick. 😂

Sometimes a delivery is more than just balloon décor, it’s a full-circle moment.

For the Alumni Giving Annual Teachers for America Career Center event, a few trendy tapered twist balloon columns were the perfect focal point while awaiting the arrival of the step-and-repeat backdrop. These sleek, modern designs helped define the space, create visual impact, and welcome guests with a polished, professional atmosphere.

What made this event especially meaningful was returning to Marygrove College as an alumna. Driving onto campus and walking through the doors after so many years brought back countless memories, achievements, and milestones. It was a reminder that every event tells a story, and we are honored to help bring those stories to life.

I’m Julie Cylla, BBA, CBA - Creative Director of Top Notch Balloon Creations, a luxury balloon décor company specializing in high-end corporate events, immersive experiences, and strategic event branding.

My creative journey actually began in the late 1980s with my original company, Unveil Your Dreams, Inc., where I focused on the wedding and event industry as a certified florist creating mixed-media event designs. As my passion for balloon artistry continued to grow, I rebranded in the 1990s and launched Top Notch Balloon Creations to focus exclusively on innovative balloon décor and large-scale event experiences.

What started as wanting more creative balloon designs beyond traditional arches and columns eventually evolved into a career and brand that has allowed me to work with corporations, nonprofits, schools, community organizations, and clients looking for elevated event experiences.

Over the years, I’ve had the honor of becoming:
