Let's talk about The Carleton Knightingales shall we? Established in 1980, The Knightingales (or the 'Gales as they like to call themselves) are a dozen women from Carleton College as talented as they are smart (they are are Carleton students, after all). With a repertoire of music ranging from The Beatles to Blondie to Macklemore and even some originals thrown in, their intricate harmonies will amaze folks of all ages.
The Gales are going to make a special appearance Friday night at the 100% Local Music Festival on behalf of the Northfield Area United Way at the The Grand Event Center of Northfield. Doors open at 5, music starts at 5:30 p.m.Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students. Contact Rich Larson or the NAUW for tickets!

Your Almost Daily 100% Local Music Festival preview. The spotlight today shines on Jon Manners. Ask any card carrying member of the Northfield Music Scene who should receive the most attention, respect, love and adoration and, to a person, the answer you will hear is "Jon Manners."

For more than 30 years Jon has played the bars, theaters and festivals of Northfield, regaling us with his unique blend of r&b, jazz, funk, folk and rock. He is a master songwriter and guitar player, and you will not find a more joyful performer in Southern Minnesota. No wonder he's been named the Best Solo Performer in Southern Minnesota three years in a row by the readers of SouthernMinn Scene magazine.

Jon will be on stage at the Grand Event Center of Friday night for the 100% Local Music Festival, along with Anna Marie Mitchell, The Carelton Knightingales, Wendy Smith & The Zillionaires and The Counterfactuals. Contact Rich Larson or the Northfield Area United Way for tickets!

Live on the tv show, Minnesingers, recorded at channel Catv, Minnesota.

Your almost daily 100% Local Music Festival preview (first in a series). The point of 100% Local is two-fold: we want to shine a spotlight on all the great music that comes out of our magnificently talented town and we want to raise a LOT of money for the Northfield Area United Way.

We begin with Anna Marie Mitchell, a senior at Northfield High School who has what they used to call Great Expectations. This young songwriter has already spent years working with great professionals in Nashville, honing her skills as a writer, singer and performer. In 2016 she'll be off to college in Nashville, headed for what feels like an inevitably successful career. Catch her in her hometown while you still can.

The 100% Local Music Festival is October 23 at the Grand Entertainment Center. For tickets contact Left-handed Entertainment or The Northfield Area United Way.

This show is TOMORROW NIGHT!!

From SouthernMinn Scene on the: "Chris Koza and Furia are playing a double bill at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Northfield Arts Guild, and this show is a peek at some big stuff to come.

Koza, best known as the creative force behind Twin Cities folk rockers Rouge Valley, is releasing a new solo album, In Real Time, this week. He has a major album release show planned for Sunday night at Minneapolis’ august Cedar Cultural Center, so he’s taking the opportunity to play an acoustic “tune-up” gig the night before on friendly turf (Koza graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield). Those who have heard the new album say that it’s easily his most accessible work to date, and anyone who has followed Rouge Valley’s progression over the last nine years, as well as Koza’s previous solo albums, know that he has hit his stride as a top flight songwriter.

Furia is a Northfield art rock band made up of singer/songwriter Meredith Fierke, keyboardist/producer/Svengali Steve McKinstry and play-anything-with-strings instrumentalist Schuyler Peterson. Fierke has had good success in her own right as a solo artist – even placing a song on the 2009 Cities 97 Sampler – but has spent the last few years working on an ambient indie folk project with McKinstry and Peterson that has been promised for 2015 and will garner quite a bit of attention once it sees the light of day.

The upstairs gallery at the Northfield Arts Guild is a fantastic little listening room that provides an intimate, comfortable experience, and is the perfect setting for this show. Discerning music aficionados will want to forget about everything else on Saturday night. This show is a preview of the great, great music that lies ahead in 2015."
