Congratulations to Mikiya Smith! This summer, Mikiya has earned the rare opportunity to train at DAP College and perform on acclaimed stages like the Cloister of Sant’Agostino and the Gran Teatro della Versiliana. She is currently overseas in Italy, training and performing this summer at the prestigious DAP Festival in Pietrasanta! She’ll be part of both indoor productions and lively “invasions”—flash-style performances set against the beautiful backdrop of historic Pietrasanta.

Mikiya is a 2023 North Little Rock High School Dance Program alum, Sally Riggs Insalaco Spirit of the Dance Award recipient, NLRHS Dance program guest choreographer, Arkansas Dance Network scholarship recipient, and a current BFA Dance Major at Troy University in Alabama!

About the DAP Festival 🌟

Danza in Arte a Pietrasanta — the DAP Festival — is a world-renowned international dance and visual arts festival held annually from late June to early July in the charming city of Pietrasanta, Tuscany. Now in its ninth edition, it features around 32 performances blending ballet, contemporary dance, music, photography, video, and site-specific installations.

What makes DAP Festival truly unique:
• Performances take place in unexpected locations—cloisters, piazzas, galleries, even marble quarries and seashores.
• A major emphasis is on cultural exchange, merging performing arts with visual arts to create immersive, thought-provoking experiences.
• It includes the DAP College program—an intensive study and performance training package for young professionals and students, often leading to scholarships and stage opportunities.

We loved having Danny Jimenez (.smiles) in the North Little Rock High School Dance studio the last week of school for an awesome street dance workshop! The dancers had a great time! Can’t wait to have him back in the fall!

The Sally Riggs Insalaco- Spirit of the Dance Award/Scholarship plaque has been updated and will be hung again in the North Little Rock High School Dance Studio! We are so proud of all of these recipients and are so grateful to the Insalaco Family for their generosity and for helping these dancers' dreams come true! Congratulations to this year's recipient, Markael Thomas! We can't wait to see you continue to shine in your college dance program!

Jaleah Bennett- North Little Rock High School Dance Student of the Year! Jaleah is a senior Dance Troupe member, a cast member in The Lightning Thief- the Percy Jackson Musical, dance captain for numerous Troupe dances, and a finalist for the Arts Across Arkansas Choreography Competition. She'll attend UALR in the fall and plans to major in Informational Science and minor in Finance. Jaleah is a great leader in and out of the dance studio. She led student choreography projects, the senior dance, and helped out in any way needed throughout the year.

Markael Thomas- Sally Riggs Insalaco- Spirit of the Dance Award/Scholarship Recipient! Markael is an incredibly talented dancer, a senior Dance Troupe member, was a cast member in The Lightning Thief- the Percy Jackson Musical, dance captain for numerous Troupe dances, a finalist for the Arts Across Arkansas Choreography Competition, a Thea Foundation Performing Arts Scholarship Recipient, and an Arkansas Dance Network Scholarship Winner. He will be attending Grambling State University in the fall and will major in Dance!

Thank you to everyone who auditioned for the NLRHS Dance Troupe this past Tuesday! We loved seeing you all dance and appreciate your time, talent, and energy! After careful consideration, we'd like to congratulate the following dancers for being chosen to be NLRHS Dance Troupe members for the 2025-2026 school year!

*Please note- There will be a mandatory meeting this coming Tuesday, May 20th (during FLEX) in the dance studio for all members.
