Yesterday, while walking the Argenta Commons properties, I had the pleasure of meeting Mel Smith with Horton Brothers Printing. As we visited about the recent removal of the beloved century-old magnolia at the E.O. Manees House, he invited me inside to see this incredible newspaper clipping displayed in their production room.

Taken around 1910 from near the corner where Horton Brothers now sits, the image looks toward the Manees House—and there stands our magnolia, only about 20 feet tall.

We are so grateful for neighbors who share their stories and help us better understand the history of Argenta. The privilege and responsibility of caring for these community icons is never lost on us. Thank you for following our journey as we work to preserve and honor the places that make our city so special. 🤍
