Great day at the RIIL State Championships!
We want to start by acknowledging the wrestlers that went out there and battled this weekend and came up short of their goals of being All-State. We had a very impressive and hard fought performance by all of our athletes, which helped propel the team to an 11th place finish, jumping seven spots from last year.
The ladies had a great day on the mat, both advancing to the finals. Julissa and Irie both took 2nd, earning a hard fought win for “true second” after their loses in the finals. Both punched their ticket to New Englands next weekend, where they have a chance of becoming the first All-New England Wrestlers in the women’s division for North Kingstown!
Captain Lukas Anderson who was battling a virus all week used the Sunday start to his advantage and was able to get healthy enough to compete and place 4th in the State at 157! Lukas fought hard in every match, avenging some losses from earlier in the season (one of them in about 30 seconds) and is an alternate next weekend.
Finishing off the night with a bang as always, was Captain Kaz Morosetti. Kaz teched or pinned every opponent he faced, dominating the competition. He is the second 3x State Champ in school history, and the first in over 20 years! Kaz will be the 1 seed at next weekends New England Championships, where he looks to become NK’s first ever New England Champion!
1 more week!
