Through The Los Angeles Community of Acting and Entertainment (LACAE), we’re building not just a school, but a home where craft and community go hand in hand. We offer world-class training rooted in industry relevance, artistic rigor, and deep mentorship. Our students are hungry to work, and we’re here to help them do it with integrity, skill, and staying power. With your support, we’re creating access to professional training that’s as bold and ambitious as the artists we serve. Whether you're looking to train with us or support our mission, there's a place for you in our community. We are powered by donations through generous supporters like you. It has been one week since we opened our doors and welcomed filmmakers into our very first FALA Fest: Shorts Edition!

The day was packed with excellent films, inspiring Q&A’s, a thought-provoking panel and Keynote speaker and a huge celebration at the end. Thank you so much to all of the filmmakers who trusted us with their work and showed up, not only for themselves but also for each other, to our volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the event a success, to our selection committee who curated a beautiful day of film, and to our panelists and Keynote speaker who brought expertise, advice, and motivation. Thank you also to our moderators, the FALA Board, and our fearless and mighty Festival Director Parker Ronan!

Congratulations to all of the winners. We are so excited to do it again next year!

North Hollywood, come spend next weekend with us at the movies.

FALA Fest: Shorts Edition is October 2–3 at LACAE Theater, with short-film screenings, filmmaker conversations, two mixers, an industry discussion, and an awards afterparty. The $50 all-access pass includes Friday’s Opening Night Mixer at Pitfire Pizza, all three screening blocks, Saturday’s Industry Panel and Keynote Speaker Discussion, and the Awards Ceremony and Afterparty. Individual tickets start at $10.

We’re particularly excited to see FALA community members Devin Evola, Shayne Wilson, Evyn Arreguin, Jamie Nichols, David Baptiste, Marabina Jaimes, and Tudor Munteanu connected to selected films. Board Member Meredith Thomas joins the panel, moderated by Deborah Baker Jr. Our judges are Jane Fleiss-Broggar, Duke Pierce, and Matthew Roberts. Thank you to Brad Simanski for helping plan the festival and Matt Scheel for keeping things running in the booth. Programming is presented with collaborators including Echobend Pictures, Blackmagic Collective, CreativeChaos VMG, and FYC Independents.

It follows a remarkable week here. We celebrated the LAPAC graduating class, including our ACT III students, after their solo showcases and graduation showcase. Thank you to directors Mary Bleier and Deborah Baker Jr., tech lead Matt Scheel, and Parker Ronan for filming. It meant so much to see Brenda Beck, Diana Brown, Jamie Nichols, Steven Fisher, Perry Hart, Mary Bleier, Bob DeRosa, Joe Garcia, Madylin Sweeten, Natalia Lazarus, Felix Grossman, and our industry guests, speakers, and mentors there to support them.

Our Together on Stage Community Cabaret with St. Matthew’s brought Jayme Foremaster, Alexander II, Perry Hart, Benjamin Rawls, Jennifer Murray, Melanie Ronning, Todd Kohlberg, Lindsay Jones, Anders Carlson, and Cathy Miller to the stage, with Lara Gold and Brenda Beck cheering them on. Thank you to Sarah Nilsen for stage managing and tech. Earlier that day, we hosted a free Blackmagic Collective Filmmaker Workshop, attended by FALA Fest panelists Monique Impagliazzo and Anastasia Washington. Thank you to Parker Ronan for bringing it to LACAE.

There’s more ahead: Building the Character with Cameron Britton and The Ultimate Story Machine with Raphaël Dirani begin September 30. FALA Board Member Brad Simanski appears in Into the Woods, directed by Elijah Green, opening this weekend. And save December 7 for our FALALA Winter Fantasy Ball.

Cameron Britton has been a huge friend to LACAE and we are so excited to have him teach the upcoming six-week Building Character acting class on Zoom.

Throughout the course, you’ll:
Use Viewpoints-based exercises to get out of your head and into the physical life of the scene.
Build character through behavior, movement, environment, relationship, and text.
Examine past roles to identify useful discoveries, instincts, and recurring habits.
Make bolder, more specific choices without forcing a result.
Develop a character-preparation process you can adapt to new material.
Receive individualized coaching from an actor known for deeply transformative work.

This class is an opportunity to loosen your grip on the “right” choice, trust your impulses, and discover a more embodied path into character.

Instructor Spotlight Cameron Britton received a Primetime Emmy® nomination for his breakout performance as Ed Kemper in Netflix’s Mindhunter. His credits also include Hazel in The Umbrella Academy, Richard Jewell in Manhunt: Deadly Games, A Man Called Otto, Mickey 17, Paradise, and Spider-Noir, with upcoming roles in Wild Things and Na Hong-jin’s Hope.

Across drama, comedy, historical figures, and heightened worlds, Cameron has built a body of work defined by specificity, transformation, and an ability to make even the most unexpected characters feel fully human.

Register through workshops link in bio! (Oh, and there are actually on 5 spots left!)
