Ruby here. In July my other grandmother, my Grammie, passed away at the age of 92. She was the grandparent I knew the most and by far the most giving and generous person I’ve ever met. She fit more things into a year of her life than most people fit in a lifetime. She was the first female bus driver in her town of Swanton. She worked for 20 years at the school cafeteria where she would pay out of pocket for kids who needed lunch. She ran the Swanton food shelf in the later part of her life. She received the Swanton citizen or the year in 2016 at the age of 84. She did so much for anybody and everybody and was genuinely fulfilled by helping others.
She was an accomplished quilter and taught me how to sew. I remember always being excited to make something new when I came to visit her in Vermont. I didn’t know it until after, but on the day she died I helped Lucy fix her sewing machine after months of putting it off and years of inactivity. Funny how that happens.
She loved her family more than anything and I loved her so much. I’m so grateful for everything she taught me and I miss her so much already.
