A young native woodland is taking root at Strathmore 🌱

This Saturday marked the completion of a multi-year effort to restore a 21,118-square-foot plot of land from an invasive thicket into a healthier native habitat.

Over the course of the project, 149 native trees and shrubs were planted, helping to create a more resilient ecosystem for years to come.

Thank you to Rock Creek Conservancy for leading this effort, Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection for sharing their expertise, and the students at Rock Creek Conservation Corps- RC3 for their dedicated work.

Special thanks to Chesapeake Bay Trust, Montgomery County, MD Government + U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for their generous funding support.

Stepping up at Good Hope 💖

This month, Strathmore teamed up with Step Afrika! and Montgomery County Recreation to bring free step classes to Good Hope Recreation Center.

Together, we’re meeting neighbors where they are and making the arts easier to access—one rhythm-filled class at a time.

This fascinating study shows that engaging with the arts can slow biological aging. 'The arts' encompasses a wide range of activities, including sensory or physical stimulation, social interaction, and aesthetics—all of which may contribute to these findings.

When it comes to slowing down our biological aging, engaging with arts and culture is as beneficial as physical activity, a new study suggests. https://cnn.it/4udzpBB
