🎭 Carnaval season in Peru 🇵🇪

February–March is a time of music, water games, and traditions across the country.

In El Carmen, Chincha - one of the most beloved Carnaval rituals is the Yunza (also known as Tumbamonte). A tree is decorated with gifts and ribbons, planted in the center of the celebration, and the community dances around it to Afro-Peruvian rhythms until it is chopped down — symbolizing abundance, renewal, and unity. 🌳🥁

More than a party, the Yunza is ancestral memory in motion — culture passed down through generations. A blend of Andean and Afro-Peruvian culture.

✨ One of the most iconic Yunzas is hosted annually by the famous Familia Ballumbrosio in El Carmen, Chincha.
