The Stevens Estate at Osgood Hill

The Stevens Estate at Osgood Hill Weddings and Events
Corporate Meetings Today, the Stevens Estate at Osgood Hill is owned by the Town of North Andover and managed by Fireside Catering.

The Stevens Estate at Osgood Hill is one of the finest intact examples of the Aesthetic Design Movement of the late 1800's. Its serene, natural setting inspires and enriches visitors as it inspired the carpenters and masons whose craftsmanship still holds visitors in amazement today. Inspired by Oscar Wilde's 1882 North American lecture tours on the subject of the Aesthetic Movement, the " House B

eautiful" at Osgood Hill was designed as a dramatic acknowledgement of the philosophy of the famed playwright, poet genius and social commentator; that the vital intensity of the aesthetic experience is the paramount goal in human life, that art needs no justification and need not serve a moral purpose. The peaceful beauty of this setting , its rich natural landscapes and magnificently artful interiors are designed to be enjoyed as a few moments of catharsis from a busy world. Built for Moses Stevens in 1886, the magnificent mansion and gardens were famed for the spectacular garden parties and events that attracted many hundreds of guests who worked for the Stevens textile mill empire up and down the east coast, and beyond. A statesman, politician and recognized elder of his peers, the library at Osgood Hill was designed to host to dinner parties, gatherings and vital conversations that would shape the world as we know it. A portion of the revenues generated from our events are reinvested into the estate for restoration and repair of the mansion, estate buildings and grounds. In recent years five bathrooms were restored to their original state, featuring beautiful rich colors, antique fixtures and many original features. When you choose to reserve The Stevens Estate for your wedding, social event, or meeting, you are helping to preserve this amazing estate for future generations.

Our Story

The Stevens Estate was built in 1886 by Moses T. Stevens, a prosperous owner of textile mills and a member of one of the founding families of North Andover. The house and outbuildings were designed by Boston architects Hartwell & Richardson and sit atop Osgood Hill. The beautiful oak and mahogany paneling, leaded stained glass windows and imported marble fireplaces are a testament to its grandeur and significance in the Boston area. The Stevens family maintained the Estate until the 1950's, when they donated to property to Boston University. The Town of North Andover purchased the Stevens Estate in 1995 to protect it and preserve its grounds. On the National Registry of Historic Places, the Stevens Estate is one of the few remaining grand estates of the Victorian era. The Stevens Estate and its beautifully maintained grounds provide the perfect setting for a variety of events. The Main House features formal rooms furnished with rich oak paneling, intricate wood carvings, imported marble fireplaces, and an elaborate stained glass window. The floor plan includes a large function room that can seat up to 100 guests. The mansion is connected to the Victorian tent by a marquis so you are never exposed to the elements. The tent, with custom build dance floor measuring 16 x 24 feet, sits on a cobblestone terrace. The hidden historic treasure, which sits high on 153 acres, creates the perfect backdrop for a unique and private event. The professional staff at the Stevens Estate together with a wide array of approved caterers, are committed to making your day truly unforgettable.
