We got some heartbreaking news this morning. One of our own — — has passed away.

Gerrod was always singing, smiling and bringing good energy wherever he went. His presence was felt throughout the Norfolk State Music Department and Choir, and by so many Spartans who knew and loved him. What makes this even harder is knowing his birthday had just passed last week.

Homecoming reminds us how special it is to come back together — and how painful it is knowing everyone won’t get the chance to make it back again.

This Homecoming, when the music is playing, when the choir sings, when old friends embrace and when thousands of Spartans come back home, there will be one voice and one smile we’ll be missing.

So today, Alumni Fest sends our deepest condolences, love and prayers to Gerrod’s family, friends, classmates, the NSU Music Department, Choir family and everyone fortunate enough to have shared a moment with him.

Rest in Paradise, Gerrod. 🕊️💚💛

With deep sadness, the Alumni Fest family shares that on Thursday, we lost Omar Z. McDonald.

We wanted to wait until the funeral arrangements were confirmed before making this post, and now we join his family, friends, brothers, and loved ones in honoring his life and legacy.

Omar was a mentor, a leader, a brother, and a man whose presence made an impact on so many people. The way he carried himself, poured into others, and led with strength and heart will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, to the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., to the Norfolk Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and to every life he touched along the way.

As we share his arrangements and celebrate his life, we do so with heavy hearts, but also with gratitude for the example he set and the legacy he leaves behind.

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever missed.

Until we reach the Golden Shore. ♦️
