Sometimes…rescues aren’t always happy endings. Well, not happy for us as humans…but there’s a point where we have to not be selfish and do what is BEST for the ponies
Cheddar and Sprout are in very bad shape, and on top of that….they are very, VERY old. The vet aged them to be in their mid to late 30s based on their teeth and other physical features.
Cheddar spends 90% of the day laying down, I have to physically walk him to his water to drink. And I have to walk his food to be directly under him. Even at that, his appetite is minimal. Pain medications don’t seem to help at all.
Sprout has absolutely no practical use of his hind leg/hip….and his back feet and lower legs are severely deformed due to lack of foot care, most likely beyond repair without surgery/splints. He spends quite some time laying down as well
On top of leg/feet issues….both boys have very progressed signs of Cushings 😞
The farrier, the vet and myself all feel that at SUCH an old age….putting them through a lot of trauma just to TRY to make them feel better, isn’t practical or fair to them. Making changes to their feet at this point would put even more strain and pain on their old fused joints and bones
We are leaning towards the idea that the KINDEST thing to do for these boys would be to help them cross over to the Heavenly side of the universe 💕
We will keep you all posted.
