NEWTOWN — The Waterbury Symphony Orchestra (WSO) presents its final Edmond Town Hall Series concert of the season at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, featuring a world renowned violinist for the “Strings Attached” performance. Marissa Regni, principal violinist of the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center joins WSO and Concertmaster Alyce Cognetta Bertz for a delightful blend of classical, crossover and jazzy strings.
WSO’s Artistic Director and Conductor Leif Bjaland expressed delight at the prospect of working with Marissa for this concert.
“Marissa is a captivating performer comfortable with a multitude of different musical styles. Her talent is always on full display as creator and host for the National Symphony Orchestra’s Children’s Concerts, where she also serves as principal second violin,” Mr. Bjaland said, in a statement.
About the concert program, Mr. Bjaland shared, “Many Jazz composers of the 20th century drew inspiration from the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. This concert is a mash-up of Bach and the jazzers who admired him, with a bit of Baroque, Boccherini and bongos thrown in.
The music program will include Loussier Concerto no.2 for Violin & Tabla, Britten; Playful Pizzicato, Piazzolla/O’Connor; Libertango, Boccherini; Fandango, Bach; Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, Grapelli; Bach Through the Looking Glass, and more.
