Join us at 6pm on Sunday, September 28 for Aba Diop & the Yermande Family at Kings Oaks—a celebratory and uplifting concert with a powerhouse ensemble of artists and global collaborators lead by master sabar percussionist Aba Diop.

Aba Diop & the Yermande Family bring rhythm as medicine. Led by master griot percussionist, Aba Diop, their concerts center sabar—drums traditionally used for healing, celebration, and spiritual connection. Rooted in Senegalese rhythm and call-and-response tradition, the music blends polyrhythmic percussion, improvisational guitar, microtonal melodies, and soaring voice. The overall effect is deeply mystical, uplifting, and undeniably dance worthy.

Seating is limited, all ages welcome. Ample room to dance or move to the music. Ticket link in bio, DM us for more info.

Rotem Amizur is returning to Kings Oaks this March 13 - 16 to teach a workshop on depicting interiors through the colorful and freeing process of painted paper collage. Collage turns looking and composing into a playful game, where shapes of color are easily cut and moved. We will apply this intuitive compositional approach to the domestic interior of an historic home at Kings Oaks. Infinite possibilities arise through seeing your surroundings transformed into simple shapes. Furniture and decor from different eras–chairs, sofas, lamps, paintings on the walls, and still life scenes of objects and flowers inspire compositions that embody place. You are invited to play with looking and inventing, turning the mundane into something thrilling. Learn more and register via the link in our bio.

We are pleased to announce The Interior in Collage: A Painted Paper Collage Workshop with returning Kings Oaks artist Rotem Amizur , March 13 - 16, 10am - 4pm. Collage gives one the opportunity to paint without fear. It turns looking and composing into a playful game, where shapes of color are easily cut and moved. We will apply this freeing compositional approach to the domestic interior.

This workshop will take place in an historic house on the grounds of Kings Oaks farm with windows facing a tranquil forest. Participants will paint paper to create their own color palette. We will then observe the interior space around us as a playground. Infinite possibilities arise when we start seeing reality in simple shapes. Furniture and decor from different eras–chairs, sofas, lamps, paintings on the walls, and still life scenes of objects and flowers will inspire us to compose intimate scenes embodying “place”. We will play with looking and inventing, turning the mundane into something thrilling.

Join us for Flowers in February, a two-day introduction to the vibrant, centuries-old practice of crewel embroidery with French embroidery artist, guilder, and restorer Vincent Moreno. Design and stitch a unique floral design or sampler inspired by traditional forms. Learn how to mount fabric onto a stretcher frame, transcribe your design, select colors and stitches, and create your own embroidered piece. Go home with a stretcher frame, needle, sampler of stitches learned, a unique embroidered design, and a simple frame and mat for display.

12 - 4pm, February 22 - 23 at Kings Oaks, all materials included, no experience necessary. Tea and light refreshments provided. Register via the link in our bio.

Vincent Moreno lives and works in Rosemont, New Jersey and Rouzède, France. He studied installation work and sculpture at the Avignon School of Art and learned gilding and restoration from a master guilder in Lyon. Vincent taught himself embroidery and textile techniques and specializes in crewel embroidery techniques from the 17th and 18th centuries in England.

A popular technique in 17th and 18th-century England and 18th-century America, crewel embroidery traditionally meant creating a design with a variety of stitches using woolen thread on linen twill fabric. The designs–often floral motifs, trees of life, or stylized landscapes, birds, and animals–added beauty and a personal touch to home furnishings, garments and accessories.

Ceramics by Karlene Jean Kantner of Stockbridge, Massachusetts in the barn, chapel and garden at Kings Oaks. About her potato pots in the exhibition she says, “Growing potatoes in these pots felt simultaneously like play and prayer but certainly not like work.“ Karlene’s studio practice begins at the work table and expands to the firing, to the potting bench, to the landscape, and then to the seed. She hand builds her forms using coils and clay strips that are ripped from very thin slabs. One layer at a time she adds clay, secured with a small paddle, to build sedimentary texture. In each piece she aims to introduce a geologic monument to a figurative form.
Please inquire for more information about Karlene’s work in the exhibition.

Our Story

Art at Kings Oaks reimagines a stone chapel and a 19th-century barn near Newtown, Pennsylvania, as unique settings for art to inhabit. Initiated in 2012 by Bucks County painter Alex Cohen, the artist-lead pop-up exhibition is co-produced and hosted by Alex Cohen and theatre artist Clara Weishahn. Art at Kings Oaks presents the work of local, national, and international artists and traditionally takes place over the first two weekends in October, with an opening reception on the first Friday and a closing reception on the second Sunday.
