Casa Aguilar's Free Meals Initiative Surges with $2,000 Donation Amid SNAP Concerns
HICKORY, N.C. — Casa Aguilar, the beloved fusion restaurant offering a taste of Southern California with authentic Mexican and Salvadorian flavors, announced Friday October 31, 2025, that it has received a $2,000 donation to support its emergency free meals program for children and elderly amid potential disruptions to SNAP benefits due to the federal government shutdown.
The donation from Allison & White Property Management & Realty was shared by local food vlogger "What Its Hittin For," who celebrated the contribution as a "wonderful way to begin the day—with a substantial donation & heartwarming blessing! This is the true meaning of community. Thank you to Allison & White Property Management & Realty for their kindness; this will feed many families."
Casa Aguilar owner Sara responded with profound appreciation: "I am taken aback by your love for our community. Thank you for this donation! This means so much to me! Angels upon this earth still walk amongst us!! ❤️" She further noted the program's momentum: "Thank you to everyone who has donated! We have raised well over $8,000 to feed our community as one! God bless you all!! ❤️❤️❤️"
Launched earlier this week, the initiative will provide one free meal daily starting Nov. 3, 2025, to children and elderly presenting a SNAP card at the drive-thru window—no questions asked. Located at 2916 N Center St., the restaurant has become a local staple since opening, known for dishes like birria tacos, pupusas, and fresh entrees made with local ingredients. This effort addresses fears of November SNAP delays affecting 1.4 million North Carolinians, including 600,000 children, as a federal judge's ruling mandates partial funding but full restoration remains uncertain.
The $8,000+ raised so far will enable hundreds of meals, easing burdens on families facing potential benefit shortfalls. Casa Aguilar's commitment reflects its mission to give back, having previously supported charities and hurricane relief.
