Some sessions are special because of the milestone. Some are special because of the person.

Photographing Kim’s college graduation session was one of those sessions that meant a little extra to me. Her family has been like family to me for most of my life, so getting to celebrate this huge accomplishment with her felt incredibly full circle.

We photographed her session in beautiful Smithfield, Virginia, and I loved how the classic brick architecture and soft evening light paired perfectly with the elegant feel of her cap and gown portraits. I loved the mix of professional portraits, graduation images, and all the little in-between moments that showed her personality and confidence.

Watching people you care about reach goals they’ve worked so hard for is one of the best parts of what I get to do.

Congratulations, Kim. I’m so proud of you and so excited for everything ahead.

That’s the standard post but I’ve been bad at posting this year. I guess I need to keep up the posting! Woot! Thanks for engaging with me

There’s something really special about photographing the children of people you’ve known since high school. Watching life come full circle and getting to capture such an exciting season for their family is always an honor.

Haden’s senior session in Yorktown gave us the perfect mix of everything I love about this area — glowing lanterns and brick walkways by the waterfront, soft greens tucked into hidden trails, and dreamy little creek spots that feel straight out of a storybook. Every outfit brought such a different vibe, from elegant and flowy to relaxed and playful, and she made every single look effortless.

I especially love how these images feel both timeless and full of personality. Senior sessions should feel like you, and Haden absolutely brought that to every moment of this session.

Yorktown continues to be one of my favorite places for senior portraits, and sessions like this are exactly why.

One of my favorite things about photography is getting to celebrate the people connected to my own community. This time it was especially fun getting to photograph Naylin — the daughter of one of my roller derby teammates — for her senior portraits at City Center in Newport News.

I love how much personality we packed into this session. From basketball photos that felt playful and full of energy to cap and gown portraits by the fountains at sunset, every part of this session felt so perfectly her. The mix of casual outfits, graduation photos, city textures, and soft evening light gave us such a fun variety throughout the session.

City Center continues to be one of my favorite spots for senior portraits because every corner gives something a little different — modern city vibes, water views, glowing lights, and beautiful sunset colors all in one location.

And can we talk about that basketball spin shot for a second? Absolutely worth it.

Senior portraits in Yorktown always give me the perfect mix of everything I love — water, woods, sunset light, hidden little spots, and just enough adventure to make every session feel unique. This year was no different.

When my friend Christina reached out about photographing her daughter’s senior portraits, I was so excited. Watching friends’ kids grow up and getting the chance to capture such a huge milestone always feels extra special.

From the cowboy boots in the creek to soft sunset portraits on the beach, every part of this session felt effortlessly beautiful and so perfectly her. I love creating senior sessions that feel personal and relaxed while still capturing all the little details and moments that make this season unforgettable.

Senior sessions are some of my favorite stories to tell.

As I’m making the final (last minute) decision on my studio space for the next couple of years, I want to take a moment; A moment to reflect on all the amazing things I’ve done in the last 12 years of business, A moment to appreciate all the opportunities I’ve been given and most of all A moment to thank everyone who has helped make L Workman Photography what it continues to be.
Every time someone hires me, shares a post, tags me in an ISO, sends a friend or family member, you make my dreams possible. When my precious friends come help me clean and organize I know I’m not alone. When I don’t have to worry about my boys because I have the most amazing support system, it makes the moments away not so hard. When the economy is tight and someone who loves my work hires me or offers me a new opportunity it confirms I’m worth it.
Thank you all for little moments with your babies, beautiful celebrations, your chaos, my chaos, elevated professional excellence, your beautiful faces. Thank you for your trust and shared excitement every time I create something new. Thank you for letting me be an artist not just a person with a camera and the chance to try new things.
This year is already 1/3rd of the way over 😳 and it’s already been a busier start to the year than last last couple but I’m always looking for new clients, new events, new faces while hoping to see all my favorite people this year.
I love you all, I truly mean it.

This last year I had so much fun bringing creative cake smash ideas to life, but this one… this one was extra special.

My “One Lucky Ducky” session had been sitting on my wishlist for a while. I kept waiting for the right moment (and the right baby) to bring it all together—and it did not disappoint.

From hand carving that giant duck to cutting and painting bubbles, building out the arches, sourcing the perfect outfits, and blowing what felt like a million balloons… this setup was truly a labor of love. Every little detail was designed to feel playful, bright, and just a little bit magical.

And then came Ducky—yes, that was already his nickname. I mean… it doesn’t get more perfect than that. He was on the move, full of personality, and kept us all laughing the entire time.

Add in the most adorable cake, perfectly on theme, from Sweet Chef and this session came together in the best way.

These are the kinds of sessions I love most—when an idea turns into something even better than I imagined.

If you’ve been thinking about a cake smash but want something unique and custom, this is your sign.

Time for a little- WHICH POST DO YOU SEE FIRST!?
Color or black & white… comment and emoji to let me know which one popped up on your feed 🎨 🐼

I had to share both versions from this maternity session because I truly can’t choose. There’s something so timeless about black & white, but the warmth and tones in color tell such a different story.

I happen to know Hope loves black & white just as much as I do, and honestly… I get it.

This session was everything I love—simple white backdrop, real connection, and a mix of clean light and a little drama. Nothing over the top, just focusing on this season of life and the people in it.

I often include black & white copies with final images, but if there’s one you really want in both—just ask, there's no extra charge.

And fair warning… I’ll definitely be sharing more from this session.

Tell me below, which do you prefer—are you team color or team black & white?

A fairy first birthday straight out of a storybook ✨

This sweet girl’s fairy-themed cake smash was pure magic from start to finish. From the whimsical set details to the two perfectly chosen outfits her mom brought, every part of this session was thoughtfully designed to bring the theme to life.

I love crafting each first birthday session to feel completely unique—no two are ever the same. From the colors and textures to the tiniest props, it’s all about creating something that fits your vision and celebrates this once-in-a-lifetime milestone. And that cake? Absolute perfection, courtesy of Sweet Chef.

If you’ve been dreaming of a first birthday session that feels custom, intentional, and just a little bit magical… this is your sign.
