Let’s do something about it so these young people can get older and get MARRIED!!
Anti-Bullying & Su***de Prevention Walk.
In 2016, Dejah Jones took her life after being relentlessly bullied. She was only 14. April 16th marks 9 years since her passing. Dejah loved others and was kind, warm, thoughtful, and talented. At her great-grandmother's funeral, she took a selfie with everyone present to let them all know that individually, they were loved. This was one of many beautiful acts of random kindness that characterized Dejah’s life.
In her honor, we are trying to proactively seek those out there who are hurting the tools they need to survive, feel supported and validated, and have hope. We are challenging the world to post a selfie and tag it with , using their social media to encourage others, share resources, offer judgment-free listening, and commiserate with their own experiences.
We are inviting the local community and beyond to join us on Saturday, April 19 @ 3pm, at the Foutain in Newport News City Center for an official launch of the ***dePrevention campaign and to honor those lost to su***de.
We will be taking selfies in front of the LOVE sign, as she loved to take selfies.
For those who can't make the event in person, please know that your online participation is valued. Take a selfie solo or with someone else. If you are uncomfortable with a selfie, you could take a picture of something that is sentimental to you or of the candle, you light in remembrance. Just know that your way of participating is valid, appreciated, and important. Just remember to use the tags and ***dePrevention.
