Summer went fast. It feels like we were just getting started.

Here’s what’s coming through the doors this month.

Live music, comedy, DJs, flow arts, theater, late nights.

Some familiar faces. Some new ones.

September is full.

And then there’s HERETIC.

Three days of performance, music, art, theater, film and whatever happens when all of it gets put in the same room.

Ellis Flow is a new monthly Wednesday gathering for flow arts, music, movement, and the people who love them.

Every third Wednesday, we’ll turn the house lights down, bring up the colors, put on a shared playlist and open up the floor to spin, practice, dance, experiment and hang out.

Bring your poi, hoops, staffs, fans, flags, silks, levi wands, LED props, or whatever you like to flow with. If you’re new to flow arts, you’re just as welcome. Come learn from the people around you, try something out, or simply spend the night listening to music and watching it all happen.

THE MUSIC

The music is part of the experiment.

Everyone who buys a ticket will get access to that month’s shared playlist, where you can add tracks you want to hear. Each month’s soundtrack will come from the people actually coming to Flow.

WHAT ARE FLOW ARTS?

Flow arts live somewhere between dance, movement and object manipulation. Think poi spinning, hooping, staffs, silk fans, levi wands, contact props and the countless other things you’ve probably seen glowing and spinning around campgrounds, festivals and dance floors.

You don’t need experience, and you don’t need to bring a prop to come.

Ellis Flow is simply a place to do it together.

The goal is to give the Hudson Valley flow community a regular place to meet, practice and find each other. As it grows, we hope Flow becomes a meeting point for the larger electronic music, dance and performance community around The Ellis.

BLACK STAR ENSEMBLE ⟡ A RADIOHEAD EXPERIENCE

On October 16, we’re going underwater.

Fresh off a performance at Mazzstock Music Festival, Black Star Ensemble comes to The Ellis for a full night of Radiohead inside the beautiful, strange walls of a 19th-century church.

Expect Radiohead from the quiet, devastating moments to the songs that completely come apart.

And this one has a dress code of sorts.

Come as a weird fish. A sea creature. A drowned prom queen. An alien. A ghost. Something from another dimension. Whatever you imagine lives just beneath the surface.

Costumes strongly encouraged. Getting lost recommended.

Still thinking about last weekend.

Friday we had Plush, Major Moment, Mama Doom & Misfit Toys with Back From the Dead Productions. Saturday we traded the amps for candlelight with Confession and Midna Mayhem & Zvetschka.

Really cool to look back at these photos and remember just how much can happen in this room over a couple of nights.

Much love to the bands, producers, performers, artists and everyone who spends their weekends supporting live music and independent events. We’re lucky to have a lot of people around here willing to make something happen in real life.

Third time around, and we’re going deeper.

NYC house music in all its sweat, soul, bass and beautiful repetition — from the rooms that built the culture to the records pushing it forward now.

DJ FLATLINE returns to the decks with special guest DJ RONNIE RAVE.

No nostalgia act. No standing around.
Just house music the way it’s supposed to feel: loud, late, and locked in.

Sarah Elaz’s band Boojum is coming to The Ellis. And they’re bringing the whole RITUAL with them.

The dancer-turned-bassist has become impossible to look away from. A magnetic performer whose world lives somewhere between deep grooves, movement, fashion, theatre and beautiful chaos.

On September 10, that world takes over The Ellis as Sarah and Boojum bring RITUAL to Newburgh: an immersive collision of funk, EDM, dance, performance art, myth and the occult.
Exactly the kind of night we built this room for.

And because this is Newburgh, we’re bringing some Hudson Valley heat into the equation. What? opens with six-piece funk, a powerhouse horn section and the kind of grooves that get a room moving before you realize you’ve left your seat.

If you tried explaining last week at The Ellis, it would sound made up.

On Thursday, a former church echoed with unapologetic laughter as comedians confessed the kinds of things you’re usually supposed to keep to yourself.

By Saturday, the room belonged to live music, burlesque, drag, DJs, dancers, artists, lovers, friends, strangers, and everyone chasing that rare feeling of being exactly where they were supposed to be.

That’s the part we love most.

The Ellis isn’t built around one scene, one audience, or one idea of what a night out should be. It’s built for people who are curious enough to walk through the doors without needing to know exactly what’s waiting for them.

Thank you to every artist who trusted us with their work, every organizer who imagined something bold, and every guest who chose experience over routine.

We’ll keep making room for the unexpected.
