✨ Inspiring the next generation of fashion professionals ✨
It was a true pleasure to welcome Nelson Cantada, Chair of the Fashion Studies Program at the College of DuPage, and his class of talented students to the Paula Varsalona Design House in NYC for an immersive visit into the world of couture fashion and brand development.
Designer, Founder & CEO Paula Varsalona shared reflections on her remarkable 50+ year journey in the fashion industry, speaking candidly about the evolution of her business, the value of understanding your client, and the importance of cultivating authentic, lasting relationships that stand the test of time.
Students also heard from Creative Director, Gena DeVirgilio, on the dynamic world of brand marketing, showroom sales, and social media strategy, including the growing role of AI in advertising and communications and the importance of thoughtfully navigating emerging technologies in today’s fashion landscape.
Joining the conversation was Susan Barone, Paula’s trusted right-hand woman, an exceptionally talented fitter, and adjunct professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, who shared valuable insight into the day-to-day operations, fittings, craftsmanship, and production process at Paula Varsalona NYC. Her perspective offered students a behind-the-scenes look at the precision, collaboration, and dedication required to bring couture designs to life.
We are always honored to open our doors to aspiring fashion professionals and share the many dimensions of this industry, from design and craftsmanship to marketing, sales, and innovation.
Thank you, Nelson, for bringing such an engaged and thoughtful group of students to visit us. We hope this experience offered meaningful insight and inspiration as they begin shaping their own paths in the world of fashion. Wishing each of them continued success in their future endeavors! ✨
