Always a thrill to see one of our dresses on stage, and even moreso when the actress posts about her fitting on her Instagram page! Collars for the “working girl”. Not only men wore separate collars and cuffs (but women’s were prettier! )

Interesting that even in these old advertisements , working women were illustrated as wearing more “mannish” clothing and accessories such as ties and even boaters. No more, thank goodness!

We will be closed Friday, January 30, as part of the National Shutdown general strike to protest Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity across the country and even abroad, claiming they will be sending ICE to accompany the U.S. delegation to the Winter Olympics “to vet and mitigate risks from transnational criminal organizations”.
At least our first amendment rights allow us to post this .....so far. Thank you and be kind to your blameless neighbors who struggle to make a better life here.

We love when one of our former interns comes by to visit and by chance, finds a great early 1930s silk velvet and beaded gown on one of our sales racks ( and only $50!) that she will, with her amazing sewing skills, refit to her size!

Today we honor the late Diane Keaton, whose incomparable grace and talent lit up every project she touched, including this early film we worked on in 1984, “Mrs. Soffel”, designed by Shay Cunliffe and also starring a young Mel Gibson. Among the items we rented to the film was this lovely Edwardian matching camisole and petticoat set, lined in silk for modesty.
