This July, PINK FANG artists partnered with La Guardia Performing Arts Center () to bring theatrical story telling workshops to nursing students at LaGuardia Community College (CUNY) () to reflect on their journeys as future caregivers.

Led by our Artistic Director, Engagement Sara Zatz () and teaching artist C Meranda Flachs-Surmanek () students from the Nursing (Registered Nurse/RN), AAS program were invited to reflect on their journeys as health care professionals, using our interview-based and community-engaged theater practices to support self-expression, storytelling, and leadership development.

Across two in-person workshops and an online coaching session, students explored identity, caregiving, and communication — using the power of narrative to connect more deeply with themselves and those they will serve.

We’re honored to support the next generation of healthcare practitioners through the arts.

We mourn the passing of Ozzie Rodriguez, La MaMa's Archive Director. He was truly one-of-a-kind and we will forever remember how he brought the La MaMa archive to life, each time we visited. Pink Fang (formerly Ping Chong and Company) has been a longtime resident company of La MaMa, and we send love to his family, and the La MaMa family in this moment of deep loss.

In June, we wrapped up our Creative Aging program at Selfhelp Maspeth and Elmhurst Older Adult Center—and we’re still buoyed by and thinking about the stories, the laughter, and the dancing. Our Creative Aging program invites older adults to explore memoir, storytelling, and performance. Through a series of workshops, participants craft and share their stories in a final public celebration—rooted in documentary theater and collective memory.

Over ten weeks, participants in the program brought their memories into the room—sometimes through words, sometimes through treasured objects, always with heart. Music from their cultures filled the air, and their voices filled the space with joy, reflection, and connection.

One moment we’ll never forget: the “Swan Goose Song,” when everyone—elders and teaching artists alike—flew across the room like birds. Longing for home, and yet completely together.

Thank you to our incredible teaching artists: , and
