It may be unexpected, but there can be quite a lot of math, computer and administrative work in floristry. Even if a designer is one who chooses flowers live in the market, rather than planning each stem ahead, that designer still has to mind a budget of some type for their work to be sustainable.

It ain't sexy, and depending on the individual it may or may not be fun, but this is how I work, especially when it's an event or a sold out class. Being organized is reassuring, and means I can focus on the design work, my clients and students. It sets me up so that when the inevitable curve balls pop up, I can handle them without dropping a ball elsewhere or stressing out (much!)

One of the best things about floristry is that it works for many, many types of people. I'm a creative with an itch to organize & optimize, lol. So spending my Sunday reviewing my materials for the fourth or fifth time works for me!
