It’s always a pleasure to photograph special events like this film screening premiere event and reception for Lambo Productions. Shooting this event included a step-and-repeat, panel discussions, and candid party photos.

Photographing “ODEON” by Ephrat Asherie Dance has been one of my favorite gigs ever. This live concert dance performance moved audiences at the Joyce Theatre for three consecutive nights.

As a follower, you get to see more than just finalized portfolio images. I don’t consider most of the photos I share with you portfolio worthy.

But I do believe in sharing them with you and everything else that comes with it. My photography practice is a moving local train with lots of learning opportunities along the journey.

In my latest Reel, you see how I used my camera in an unusual way to make these light paintings. Some rules are okay to break, especially in photography.

If there is one picture that has my “signature,” well, it’s this one because my hand was shivering from the freezing temperature while making these!

“Get a load of this guy” -

As a photographer, I feel this pressure to always be making. But right now I’m releasing some of that pressure and focusing instead on letting go.

Here are a few things I’m working on:
1) Selling half of my book collection.
2) Scanned all important documents and paper that had sentimental value. Gonna live the PDF life.
3) Finally recycling packaging that I was holding on to for items that I bought a while ago.
4) Deciding what is useful in my life right now and what I actually plan on keeping for a long time. Everything else can be replaced if I really need it again.

Is anybody else feeling this shift in energy towards letting go of things to make room for a more meaningful and simple life without so much stuff?

I use to think of the streets of New York City as the ultimate set design for the award-winning and unforgettable musical called ”Life.”

My professional career began as a carpenter and set designer for small theater companies. My theater background and my interest in architecture and design helped me see the world around me as a play, with actors performing this convoluted script that made no sense and had no beginning and no end. All the characters would enter for a scene, say some lines, move some props, and then exit without coming back. Every year in the city is a new chapter in this story, constantly evolving and building up to sudden twists without foreshadowing.

But sadly, my characters are becoming all that not interesting. They look down at their phones as if they were searching for their next line, unaware of the watching audience. In their ears, white pieces of plastic made to cancel their auditory experience. Their wrist and left cheek pocket vibrate simultaneously, notifying them of another serious matter they must attend to. Every character holds an apple, but nobody bites into it. They wait to connect with 5G while stationary feeling 0G.

Sometimes I want to yell, ”Cut, Places, Action!” and see if anything changes.
