What actually separates a smooth corporate event from a chaotic one?

Showcalled A’s 4-day annual congress in Salt Lake City last week.

Had all the showcaller essentials: headset, comms, speaker timer, printed show flow/run of show, speaker slides/script on laptop, Pos-It’s, all the hydrating beverages, snacks and the unsung hero “emergency” chocolate.

My pro tip is I always have a bag of Dove chocolates by me on the tech table, mixture of dark and milk chocolate and caramel. It’s for “emergencies” which can be anything. I don’t ask questions but it’s chocolate for me, my team, my clients, speakers, anyone! It’s a miracle how one piece of chocolate can help someone in the moment, especially in the heat of a live event.

Last week, we had our bi-monthly meet-up for the Event Pros Book Club. We discussed “The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz.

We talked about our shared love of seeing the color blue in nature during springtime. We discussed how the four agreements applied to our personal lives and the work we do in events. Some folks had read it before and were intrigued by the rereading of the book and seeing the different ways the concepts resonated.

Last month, we had our bi-monthly meet-up for the Event Pros Book Club. We discussed “Who Better Than You?: The Art of Healthy Arrogance and Dreaming Big” by Will Packer.

We talked about how we could embody healthy arrogance and not asking for permission to go after our goals/ambitions. Another key point was talking about the power of saying your goals or intentions out loud. Whether that's with a vision board, affirmations, or even Jackie, a book club member, shared her take on visualization with a bingo board.
