Today, we had our bi-monthly meet-up for the Event Pros Book Club. We discussed “The Gap and The Gain" by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy.

As part of our discussion, we talked about how applying the "gain over the gap" mentality can help us relate better to others, appreciating their gains vs. the gap to their potential. This concept felt like it was straight out of teaching principles: not everyone has the same gaps and not everyone has the same gains. We also talked about the struggle of staying present in our events and not just looking at the to-do list.

What actually separates a smooth corporate event from a chaotic one?

We pulled back the curtain on the technical side of corporate events — production vs. management, the AV knowledge that protects your profit, and why AI won't replace producers (but producers who use it will win).

Showcalled A’s 4-day annual congress in Salt Lake City last week.

Had all the showcaller essentials: headset, comms, speaker timer, printed show flow/run of show, speaker slides/script on laptop, Pos-It’s, all the hydrating beverages, snacks and the unsung hero “emergency” chocolate.

My pro tip is I always have a bag of Dove chocolates by me on the tech table, mixture of dark and milk chocolate and caramel. It’s for “emergencies” which can be anything. I don’t ask questions but it’s chocolate for me, my team, my clients, speakers, anyone! It’s a miracle how one piece of chocolate can help someone in the moment, especially in the heat of a live event.

Last week, we had our bi-monthly meet-up for the Event Pros Book Club. We discussed “The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz.

We talked about our shared love of seeing the color blue in nature during springtime. We discussed how the four agreements applied to our personal lives and the work we do in events. Some folks had read it before and were intrigued by the rereading of the book and seeing the different ways the concepts resonated.
