Barbara Hepworth carved silence into form. Her sculptures breathe with landscape. Openings that hold space for light, shadow, and the body moving through them.

Monvieve looks to her language of balance and abstraction. Veils, too, can sculpt. Not worn as ornament, but as form in motion. Cut to frame. Built to hold softness. Always in dialogue with the body they adorn.

Louise Nevelson’s Frozen Laces – Two feels like a veil in negative space. Wood carved into shadow. Silence arranged into structure.

Her work holds the same duality we seek in veil-making. Form and light. Architecture and softness. A tension between concealment and declaration.

At Monvieve, lace becomes language. The veil becomes sculpture. Nothing is ornamental. Everything is intention.

Crafted in the mid-19th century by Italian sculptor Raffaelle Monti, The Veiled Lady is a triumph of illusion. The marble veil clings to the face like silk, capturing a breath, a moment, a soul suspended.

Sculptors of this period sought to defy the weight of their material to carve what felt like movement, translucency, air.

At Monvieve, the veil follows a similar philosophy. To drape structure in softness. To shape what moves. To render emotion in layers so fine, they barely touch the skin.

The veil has always held a duality. Concealment and revelation, ritual and rebellion.

At Maison Margiela, it became a tool of abstraction. First under Martin’s
direction and continuing through the house’s present vocabulary, the veil obscures and transforms. It invites reflection on identity, presence, and the gaze.

When fashion meets ceremony, the veil becomes more than adornment. It becomes expression. And in that quiet tension, Monvieve finds its voice.
