A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of designing flowers for a lovely couple who were celebrating special birthdays with their closest family and friends. They chose a restaurant they’ve enjoyed since moving to the Hudson Valley.

For the flowers, I wanted the flowers to feel natural, with a few low arrangements next to rectangular vases designed to mimic the feeling of a meadow- a reference to the rolling hills surrounding their home.

I sourced the flowers locally. Bronze fennel, caucus on shades of purple and soft pink, chocolate lisianthus and other seasonal blooms. For a little unexpected texture, I removed the petals from some sunflowers letting their centers add another layer of visual interest.

I loved the way the contrasting colors came together. The result felt loose, textural and a little wild - much like the Hudson Valley landscape that inspired it.

This arrangement is made entirely from leftover blooms from recent events - some of these flowers are more than a week old but they still look fresh. Giving flowers a second life is very important to me. Rather than simply throwing them away, I dry them to make dry floral bouquets or wreaths, donate them or compost them.

Every flower and greenery in this arrangement was sourced from local growers. Embracing seasonality is key.

This arrangement is being donated to one of my favorite local restaurants, where it will greet guests at the front desk. It brings me joy knowing these flowers will continue the next chapter of their beautiful journey.

A few weeks ago, I shared that I had the pleasure of participating in a wonderful workshop led by Korean floral designer Min-seon of 미드썸머 Kong Min Seon and hosted by Jon of TOVERT.

After learning Min-seon’s unique approach to creating a spiral bouquet, we designed airy centerpieces that emphasized natural movement and negative space between flower stems. Seeing everyone’s arrangements come together into one long tablescape, complete with assorted candle pillars and gorgeous fresh fruit was really inspiring.

I’m always looking for ways to grow as floral designer and refine my techniques and skills. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of joining a workshop hosted by the lovely Jin of TOVERT and led by Korean designer Min-seon of famed 미드썸머 Kong Min Seon.

It was an inspiring experience that pushed me well outside my comfort zone - in the best possible way.

We began by creating a classical hand-tied bouquet, but instead of building the spiral by continuously turning the bouquet, Min-seon taught us a technique of creating the spiral by carefully inserting each step at a precise angle. It required a LOT of patience and intention.
