A new stop on our summer pilgrimage!

Yesterday was our first Sunday worshipping in the Atlantic Theater, a place that’s been part of St. Peter’s story for many years, and happens to have a show that is set inside a church this summer! (it’s incredible how accurate it is, down to the water stains on the ceiling 😭)

Eliana Haas shared beautifully and honestly about her pilgrimage into parenting, how God meets us in suffering, transforms us through ordinary faithfulness, and invites us into the discipline of joy.

If you’re here this summer, we highly recommend seeing the Atlantic Theater Company current show, The Saviors, a tender, nuanced story about faith, doubt, truth, secrets and freedom without a standout cast through Aug 8.

A little update for our summer pilgrimage:

Beginning tomorrow, Sunday, July 12 through September 6, we’ll be worshiping at the Atlantic Theater. Think of it as a change of scenery (and some welcome air conditioning!) as we continue our journey together this summer.

🕙 10:00 a.m. Morning Prayer
🍞 Holy Eucharist outdoors in St. Peter’s afterward (weather permitting) with iced coffee and popsicle hour.

📍 Atlantic Theater Company, 336 W. 20th St.

See you tomorrow! episcopalchurch

Worship is on the move this summer! (don’t worry, it won’t be 500 miles… more like 50 steps.)

TOMORROW, July 5: We’ll gather in the Rectory b/c of the heat wave. The sanctuary accumulates heat over multiple days and has no ventilation, so we’re choosing a cooler, cozier space just to be safe. Nursery care will be on the second floor.

July 12–September 6: We’ll worship next door at the Atlantic Theater, with Morning Prayer in the theater and outdoor Eucharist and iced coffee hour in the courtyard, weather permitting.

As we explore pilgrimage this summer, it feels fitting to leave the familiar, cross a few new thresholds, and trust that God will meet us on the way. David Thompson is our featured speaker tomorrow, sharing about how his experience on the Camino. Join us in person or by livestream!

In this week when our country is preparing to celebrate the Fourth of July, a group of us from The Church of the Ascension and St. Peter's visited Delaney Hall in Newark.

The media has turned its attention away from Delaney Hall, but people are still being detained, families are still showing up, stories are still unfolding behind walls, fences, and systems that separate families, obscure suffering, and do real harm to beloved human beings.

When we asked local organizers how we could help, the number one thing they named was: Bear witness.

We’re grateful to Sally Pillay of Eyes on ICE NJ & the Mami Chelo Foundation at the remarkable Hospitality Tent for helping us understand what’s happening on the ground, and how we can respond with compassion, courage, and care.

In this video, Sally covers:

1. What’s happening at Delaney Hall
2. How people can help
3. The conditions families are facing
4. How to give and support the work

Please share widely!

May our love of country deepen our commitment to the dignity of every neighbor. Follow Pax Christi New Jersey for updates and ways to support families.
