"Let’s talk about it 👇🏼

⚡️A champagne toast. We realized some people don’t even like champagne - we just asked everyone to raise the glass they already had. Bonus: no need to rent flutes or buy extra bottles!

⚡️A massive tiered cake. Go with a small “cutting cake” and then serve slices of a big sheet cake! This will save you hundreds, if not thousands! No one will notice and everyone will get dessert. Another option is no cake and just have a dessert table instead.

⚡️Favors for every guest. They either get left behind or tossed. If you really want to do something, make it edible or charitable.

⚡️Ceremony programs. Your guests will skim them and toss them five minutes later. Not worth the money!

⚡️Full invitation suites with RSVP cards and postage. We sent a single-page invite with a QR code linking to our website for all details and RSVPs. Easy peasy!

⚡️Separate florals for ceremony and reception. A great way to make your floral budget stretch is to repurpose your ceremony arrangements throughout your reception! We took our ceremony arrangements and placed them on our bar, dessert table and by the DJ set up.

⚡️Booking vendors before building a budget. Big mistake. You do not want to lock in expenses before you even know what you can spend.

⚡️Trying to include everyone’s opinion. It stretched our plans (and our dollars) way too thin. Don’t let this happen to you!

⚡️Using a generic checklist. It told us what to do, not how to make decisions based on what actually mattered to us.

Buuuttttt now that we know better, we can do better 👏🏻"

After being part of more than 200 weddings, I’ve learned what’s actually worth spending on… and what you can skip without regretting it.

Of course, every couple is different, and everyone values different things. But if I had to cut my wedding budget in half, these are the things I’d personally scale back on—and I truly think the day would still be just as special.

Fresh flowers would be one of the first things I’d reduce. I’d keep real flowers for my bouquet, but use high-quality faux florals everywhere else. They look amazing, and the savings are huge.

Wedding favors would also be an easy cut. They’re thoughtful, but I’ve seen so many get left behind at the end of the night. Unless they have a really meaningful purpose, I’d skip them.

Instead of hiring a professional officiant, I’d ask someone close to us—a family friend or someone from our church. It makes the ceremony feel even more personal.

The venue is another area where I’d spend less. Gorgeous venues are amazing, but they can eat up so much of the budget. I’d happily choose a smaller, more meaningful location, like family property or a simple outdoor space, and invite fewer people. The people beside you matter far more than the size of the guest list.

I also wouldn’t cover hair and makeup for my bridal party. I’d absolutely invest in my own, but I don’t think everyone else needs that expense covered.

And finally, catering. There’s nothing wrong with a buffet. Guests usually love fun options like taco bars or pasta stations, and I honestly think plated dinners are often treated as more important than they really are.

‼️FIRST Hit that save button before it’s too late ⤵️ And give us a like ❤️ if you find this helpful 😛

1. Not having a trial with your hair and
makeup artist before the wedding day.

2. Not joining the drinks reception to be able to actually mingle with your guests.

3. Not eating any of your wedding food!

4. Not having a coordinator or planner to run your day so that your family/friends can actually be present and enjoy!

5. Not prepping a photo shot list properly to ensure key moments are captured (e.g., reveals, reactions, group shots) and not putting this in your timeline.

6. Not allocating someone to collect keepsake items for memories (e.g., champagne cork, bouquets, food/drink menu, name place, favor, etc.)

7. Not having a proper Plan B in place for all weather situations if Plan A is an outdoor ceremony (rain, heat, snow, wind).

8. Not doing a room reveal of the reception or having 5 minutes for just you both before guests enter. This is key to have a private moment together and appreciate your hard work!

9. Not making a getting ready timeline for the wedding morning to include enough time for family, bridesmaids, and yourself!

10. Not packing an emergency kit with stain remover, medicines, allergy tablets, needle and thread, plasters, and more!

11. Going on honeymoon the day after the wedding-it’s way too tiring!

12. Picking people for your bridal party because you felt pressured to rather than because you wanted to
