Excited to share this upcoming series from our friends at , launching their new home at Edge Space with a double bill across three nights of experimental performance, May 22–24 in NYC!

👄 Kat Mustatea () presents a haunting, multi-sensory work inspired by Balkan folklore and performed using her custom BodyMouth instrument for embodied language.

🎤 Ka Baird () debuts a thousand miles of hungry static, a sonic and physical exploration of spectral forces and shifting perception.

This marks the first live performance at Edge Space (457 Broome St), a new co-op space dedicated to bold, boundary-pushing performance.

In these challenging times, it is important to come together as a community and find ways to give what we can, how we can. Bring a gently used coat to benefit New Yorkers in need. Drink wine to benefit the National Network of Abortion Funds. Create a fun craft for yourself to honor your inner child. Vibe to some amazing music by some local indie musicians. Be in collective. Busy weekend at MHS!
Ophelia: A Prism shifts focus from Shakespeare’s Hamlet to the ingénue Ophelia- or rather, three aspects of herself. These contrasting Sister Selves (Green, Brass, and Orange) take control of the original narrative to tell their own story of Black Femme joy, oppression, and resilience.

This adapted version of Ophelia: A Prism was first workshopped at Oberlin College in 2023.

💔💔 No easy way to say this. Due to sublet/contract issues, as of Dec 21, Mai House Studio will cease operations at 99 Canal St. Until then, we invite you all to make the most of this oasis that we built and take advantage of the space and collab with us — rehearse, make art, invite an audience, throw a karaoke party for an organization, buy our vegan leather couch or plants. All money raised from these collabs will help us with winding down costs.

Not sure if there’s a future for MHS beyond this, it’s dream crushing currently, but we’ll recover and let you know. Until then, thank you all for the most brilliantly creative 18 months. We are proud to have supported the artmaking + convening of hundreds of artists in such a short span of time. Thank you all for the love. If you wanna share in the comments what this space has meant, we welcome your words 🫂
