Not every wedding puts the DJ booth on a theater stage.

Cait & Nishant celebrated at Flushing Town Hall in Flushing, Queens, and this venue is exactly what it looks like: a real theater. The couple, the DJ booth, and the cake table all took center stage, which made the entire night feel like a live performance. It's such a unique wedding venue for couples looking for something different from a traditional ballroom.

Their playlist was just as fun as the setting, mixing '80s hits, new wave, Bollywood, and pop throughout the night. Huge credit to GK Events and Design for bringing everything together so smoothly, Liesl Henrichsen for capturing the day beautifully, flowerroomnyc for the florals, and Tikka β€˜N’ Talk for keeping guests well fed. The energy in the room never slowed down.

Ever find a wedding venue that feels like a hidden gem?

Sarah & Tom got married at The Hancock Foundation's in New York, and it's one of those places that immediately feels calm and welcoming. As guests arrived and the final touches were coming together before the ceremony, there was that mix of excitement and anticipation that makes the start of a wedding day so special.

It was great working alongside this vendor team. kept everything running smoothly, captured the day beautifully, took care of the food, and the florals from looked right at home in the space. A beautiful venue, a great couple, and a really fun day all around.

Would your wedding guests jump into a traditional dance if the music started?

Daniella & Kris had everyone out on the dance floor for a Tarantella at The Mansion at Oyster Bay in Oyster Bay, NY. If you've never seen one before, it's a fun Italian circle dance that gets a huge group involved. We do a lot of cultural dances at weddings, from Horas to Greek dances and plenty of others, and they're always some of the most memorable parts of the night.

These two wanted a wide mix of music, so we played everything from the '60s to today and kept the energy up all evening. The team at did an incredible job capturing the celebration, and the florals from looked amazing throughout the venue. With 170 guests and a beautiful setting at , this was such a fun one to be part of.

real talk: how early should you book your wedding DJ in new york?

earlier than you think. way earlier.
if you are getting married between may and october, you are looking at peak wedding season in nyc. the good DJs, the ones who actually know how to read a room and build a night that feels like yours, they are gone 12 to 18 months before your date. not exaggerating.

so if your date is next october and you are sitting here in april thinking you have time, you might already be looking at your second or third choice.
here is the order of operations that actually makes sense: lock your venue, then book your DJ. not the flowers. not the cake. the DJ. because the venue gives you the date, and the date is everything. once you have it, move on the music.
everything else has more flexibility than people realize. florists have availability. photographers sometimes have last minute openings. but the wedding DJs in new york who are worth hiring? they run tight rosters. they are not sitting around waiting.
and this matters even more if you are not looking for the standard wedding DJ experience.

at non traditional wedding djs, we are not the kind of company that takes every booking we can get. our DJs specialize in weddings where the music actually means something to the people getting married. no cookie cutter playlists. no corny hype moments. no dj screaming at your guests to put their hands up when all your guests want to do is dance to the songs you actually love.

that approach takes time to do right. and because we focus on it, we do not have a hundred open weekends sitting around.

if you have been to a wedding where the DJ felt more like a performer putting on a show than someone just making the night feel good, you already know what we are talking about. the goal is not to make it a production. the goal is to make it feel like your party. like you actually planned it and it sounds like you.

that is what non traditional means to us. less announcing, less formula, more actual music. and more of your actual taste, your actual story, your actual people having a real night.

Jen & Nate at with DJ Ben from . Their wedding moved between rooms throughout the night, turning cocktail hour into a seamless room flip before guests came back to an incredible dinner setup and a packed dance floor. The mix of pop, house music, and hip hop throwbacks kept the energy up all night without ever feeling forced.

Everything about this wedding felt thoughtful and polished. Stephanie Kleinman from kept the entire evening flowing effortlessly, the florals from brought warmth into the industrial winery space, and the photo + video team captured the atmosphere perfectly from start to finish.
