Hi! Did you ever want to start in DIY/immerse yourself in music communities but don't know where to start? Or maybe you want more experience? Then I have a job proposition for you! I'm looking for someone to work with at Kirby's Castle for the next six months. Priority to queer/POC/women/non-binary folks!
Responsibilities:
- 1-3 hour per week commitment. Most work will be remote but it'll be helpful to meet in-person as well
- listen to band demos/generate list of local + on-tour bands/maintain spreadsheets
- construct/reply to emails from bands and generally reduce first response time
- attend shows, help set-up, decorate, or manage doors
- brainstorm ideas for future events
- co-manage social media accounts to generate traction
- re-direct people to email us so we can actually see their message (and in one place!) This one surprisingly takes up a lot of time hahah
- interest in booking a show(s) of their own towards the end of their six months--not mandatory, but might be cool!
The ideal candidate would have some experience in DIY, whether that be in hosting, playing, or being active in the community, lives in NYC, has excellent writing skills, and most importantly, is very sweet and kind 🙂
While this would generally be unpaid, here are some perks:
- 10% of doors at each show
- Metrocard reimbursement when we need to do something in person
- Free lunches/dinners/drinks/coffees! Whatever I can offer you!
- Cool new friends 🙂 DIY is where 90% of my friends are ❤
Kirby's Castle is a non-capitalist and not-for-profit space as donations collected go back to bands. No one is getting paid including myself but I would like to give some type of incentive to someone who is working with me! I have a day job and that money grants me the privilege to be able to put on these shows.
To apply, please send your resume and one-page (single-spaced) with five songs that are really important to you and why to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Open Position.’ Play around with genre and form! I'm looking for creativity and strong writing skills. Deadline is March 16th!
Also, let me know if this would be for a school internship or not since we’re technically not an organization. We might be able to work something out.
Thank you! Looking forward to reading these 🙂
