The girl who started it all.
Meet Oreo. She’s my pride and joy and the old lady of my flock. She is the last remaining hen of my original five! I still remember that day. July 9th of 2021. Josh and I had been back in Texas for just under a year at this point and the old coop on the homestead was still empty. I picked up five assorted hens from a finished FFA run and brought them home. A LOT of trial and error took place over the next year. I learned a lot. I lost a lot of birds. Three years later and now our flock is somewhere around 60-80 deep. We have a little bit of everything and a whole lot of love.
One thing remains true - I still have Oreo. She will retire with me and live out her days for as many as she will have 🫶🏼

My cutie group of OE’s & Silverrud’s from Into the Meadows are one(ish) weeks old now! All five have feathers with the two Silverruds having significantly more than the OE’s. They’re all so sweet and love to cuddle into my hands. Cannot wait to see how they look in the coming weeks 🫶🏼

New cartons! This is my first time getting plastic but I just couldn’t resist a chance to show off all the colors my girls lay!!

What’s your favorite egg color here, or that your ladies lay/will lay?

Next spring I should 🤞🏼 be producing blue (from my whiting true blues), olive eggers, and silver rudds from Into the Meadows. What’s in your mixes?
