Take the piece I’m wearing. Started as a solid long sleeve. I cut the sleeves off, stitched on a pocket from an old Harley tee, and added a Harley patch on the back. One shirt, totally reimagined.

That’s what I do here. I sew, I spray paint, I build custom pieces from scratch. I even made my own custom rack.

Cinematic lighting doesn’t require a big rig. This coffee roaster piece was lit entirely with portable LED lights: the Zhiyun Cinepeer CX100 as my key and the tiny Fiveray M40 for fill and accents. For some shots the M40 was my only light, one small panel shaping the whole frame.

If you’re learning how to light cinematically with portable lights, a few takeaways: use hard light for that crisp roastery mood, motivate your sources so the light feels natural, and lean into negative fill to keep your shadows rich. Small lights punch way above their size when you control placement and distance.

Lights. Camera. Roast!

Since opening their 20,000 sq ft warehouse in 2015, Delicious Sips have been roasting coffee  on antique Jabez Burns roasters right here in New Orleans. They provide services that range from sourcing green coffee to roasting and processing beans to create the perfect custom blends for their customers.

Let’s talk shutter drag. 🌀

That dreamy motion blur at receptions isn’t luck, it’s a setting. Here’s my recipe:

I run a Godox 100 Pro (round head) handheld and off camera, TTL dialed to -0.7 to -1.0 so the flash freezes my subjects clean while everything else melts around them.

Aperture lives around f4 to f8, though you can push higher if your scene calls for it.

The real magic is in the shutter. I find 1/20 to 1/30 is the sweet spot, enough drag for those light trails without losing your couple to mush. Want more chaos and movement? Drop it lower. There’s no right answer here, it comes down to your taste and the vibe you’re chasing.

Freeze the moment, blur the rest. That’s the whole trick. ✨
