One year ago today I received a call from NOPD telling me the Mayor had determined that day that there would be no more escorted parades for the foreseeable future, and they would not be showing up for DNO’s corporate parade that very evening, even though it had been in the books for months. I had costumed revelers, a Brass Band, Grand Marshall, Pre-parade cocktails and hours d’oeuvres, as well a very excited client with 100+ guests waiting for this unique experience. What was I to do? Well, we decided to parade anyway, with all but the police. Most didn’t even notice their absence.
Little did I know what the following year would bring. No business, losing our jobs, no music for Miracle Meaux, selling our house, and now traveling around the country in our Vintage Cruiser named NOLA. Who would have ever imagined a global pandemic would bring us to our knees, praying for a vaccine (we still haven’t gotten) and a future of absolute uncertainty.
Cheers to life’s lemons and the lemonade we make. Just add Vodka, it mixes well with others.
