Sometimes the messages that mean the most aren't the public reviews. Last night, I received a message from a bride's grandmother who took the time to find me on social media just to say thank you. She shared how much she loved the wedding day, how beautiful the venue was, and how special the memories will be for their family. As a wedding venue owner, moments like this are a reminder of why we do what we do. Yes, we provide a beautiful space. Yes, we help coordinate details. But what we're really creating is a place where families gather, celebrate, laugh, cry, and make memories they'll cherish for years to come. It's easy to focus on Google reviews, Facebook recommendations, and testimonials—but a personal message like this? That's something truly special. To Lauren, Charles, and their entire family, thank you for allowing us to be a small part of such an important day. These are the moments that make owning a micro wedding venue so rewarding. ❤️

People often think owning a wedding venue is all styled shoots, beautiful weddings, and celebrating with couples. And yes, there’s some of that. But yesterday? I was fixing a toilet. What should have been a simple repair—replacing a flapper, handle, and chain inside the tank—was going perfectly. The toilet was fixed, and I felt pretty proud of myself. Then I turned the water back on. A pipe broke. Not the toilet. Not the repair I had just completed. A completely different pipe before the shutoff valve. Within seconds, water was spraying everywhere. The men’s restroom started flooding. Water made its way into the basement. It was literally raining in parts of the basement and flooding the groom’s room. And to make things more exciting, I couldn’t get the water shut off. Thankfully, Brian rushed to the venue and was able to shut the water off at the main valve while my son showed up with a shop vac. Between the three of us, we were able to minimize the damage and start cleanup immediately. It’s a good reminder that when you own a business—especially a historic venue—one small project can quickly turn into a much bigger one. The part most people don’t see is the constant maintenance, repairs, problem-solving, and unexpected challenges happening behind the scenes. For every beautiful wedding photo, there are dozens of moments spent fixing toilets, tracking down leaks, troubleshooting equipment, mowing, cleaning, repairing, and putting out fires (sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively). Venue owner life isn’t always glamorous, but it’s never boring. And somehow, even after days like this, I still wouldn’t trade it for anything.

The most memorable celebrations aren't the biggest ones.

They're the ones where every moment feels intentional, every detail feels personal, and every guest truly belongs.

💒That's what we do here at 1860 Schulhaus Venue. 🤍

I have a genuine question… Tell me about the last wedding you attended. What did the centerpieces look like? What color were the tablecloths? Were the flowers real or artificial? What kind of candles did they use? Do you remember? Because couples spend SO much time stressing over these details during wedding planning — especially florals and decor. And every time I mention artificial florals for micro weddings or intimate weddings, someone inevitably comments that faux flowers “ruin weddings.” So now I’m curious… Have you ever attended a wedding that was actually ruined because the florals were artificial? Honestly, most guests remember: * how the wedding felt * if the couple looked happy * the food * the music * the atmosphere * whether they had fun Not whether the roses were fresh-cut or rented. That doesn’t mean details don’t matter — they absolutely help create the overall experience. But I do think social media has created a lot of pressure for couples to feel like every single centerpiece has to be “perfect” to have a beautiful wedding. Especially with micro weddings and small weddings, I think couples should feel empowered to prioritize what matters most to THEM instead of what performs best on Pinterest. Now I really want to know: What’s the ONE thing you actually remember from the last wedding you attended?

Wedding shows never disappoint. I get to spend the day hanging out with my favorite people, friends and vendors- talking about what we love to do, seeing what’s new and exciting and meeting new people… and sometimes 4 legged friends. If you’re not going to bridal shows, this is what you’re missing! We love to get there early, set up, walk around to see everyone and get the first looks at their booth before we change and get ready for the crowds. What a day! Next Show August 2, 2026 at Ameristar- will we see you there?

POV: Couple: “Can we bring our dog to the wedding?” Me: “Of course.” Couple: “Can we bring a llama?” Me: “ABSOLUTELY YES. PLEASE. IMMEDIATELY.” After meeting Pebbles at yesterday’s wedding show, I’m officially campaigning for more wedding llamas, miniature donkeys, Highland cows, and tiny ponies at weddings. She literally put her head on my shoulder and hummed while I pet her, and honestly? She may have been the star of the entire show. One thing I love about micro weddings and intimate weddings is that couples have so much more freedom to create experiences that feel personal, unique, and memorable. Want your guests hanging out with a llama during cocktail hour? Let’s do it. Want a Highland cow for photos? Incredible. Planning an elopement with miniature donkeys wandering around during drinks and photos? I fully support this decision. One of the perks of having outdoor space at 1860 Schulhaus Venue is the flexibility to create moments your guests will NEVER stop talking about. Smaller weddings allow you to focus less on managing hundreds of guests and more on creating an unforgettable experience. Honestly, wedding guests will remember the llama forever.
