Fresh off the success and with the new color scheme developing, we knew we had to update the stairs. They had been neglected for far too long and needed to be refreshed. We had plans to use the stair risers as a fundraiser, so they needed to look attractive.

Over several weekends, the stairs were scraped, cleaned and repainted to the new color. The difference was striking and motivated us to continue with all three levels. This single project really showed us what could be possible and our old building began to look better and better!

Today over 60% of the treads sport plaques purchased by patrons to help fund future improvement activities in This Old Lodge. Be sure to stop in and buy a plaque while there is some left!

On this episode of This Old Lodge - REWIND JULY 2021

One of the early projects we started was the painting of the first floor entrance hallway. Painting over the old beige walls and trim and changing the color scheme to blue and grey.

We met for a work party on a Saturday. 5 brothers came out to help paint and modernize the space. We enjoyed great fellowship as we worked to get the first floor hallway painted out and made plans for the other areas to be painted. For me, it was the first time I was able to participate and meet new brothers. It was very successful and helped kickstart further improvement projects.

The afternoon work crew arrived, and after much discussion and planning they prepared and painted the new second floor bathroom floors. This big step forward means they’ll be up and fully running in the next weeks!

The team was so efficient at it, they also painted the Lowthrop lobby on the third floor as well as the Ladies room!

It’s all looking amazing! With their special Masonic twist in the design Thank you brothers for your investment of time and labor for This Old Lodge. 👏🏻 It is truly appreciated.

We had an impromptu work day today and decided to paint the fire escape stairs in preparation for our big Bear Unveiling event on

🐻 June 14th at 11:00am 🐻

Some interesting facts about this stairway:
💥The oldest part, at the top, is 120 years old, installed in 1905!
💥Each of the 25 treads have “MASONIC” welded across them.
💥The steel is stamped in several places with “CARNEGIE USA”. Built with steel made in the USA at a Carnegie plant! 🇺🇸

It’s 90% complete, and we’ll finish up in the next weeks. We think it looks great and helps improve the look of the building.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates!

On this episode of “This Old Lodge”…

We welcome the warmer weather and a chance to freshen up the outside facade, starting with the railings and fire escape.

After the endless scraping, wire brushing and cleaning the railings and fire escape platform, we sealed them with a rust inhibitor paint. Then some caulking and a coat of white exterior paint for the wood frame around the door and we begin to see how it will look when all the windows are painted!

Thanks as always to all the brothers who give their time, energy and passion to help us refresh our historic building.

On this episode of “This Old Lodge”…

While marking our 253rd anniversary on January 10, the third floor lobby refresh of the Masonic Hall took a giant leap forward as the workmen at the temple tackled one of the most challenging repairs; plaster ceilings and window casements.

Then the relentless scraping, sanding and painting the entire third floor lobby, second floor lobby, stairwell, doors and windows. The only thing left is to lay the new floor!

Several brothers invested 237 hours over 12 days to have it ready for the District meeting. And we were thrilled that folks recognized the improvement.

Big Thanks go out to all the brothers who contributed to the project. We’re grateful for your contribution of time and/or material.

What will be next for this old lodge?
