Happy World Bee Day! 🐝

Bees come in all shapes and sizes and they all have different roles in the ecosystem. On warm summer days I love to take a moment and listen to them buzz around the garden, stopping at all the flowers along the way. I rarely have pollination problems, and I know I have the bees to thank, at least partly, for that.

Thankful for bees and extra thankful to no longer be afraid of them!

Color came back to the garden overnight!

I haven’t gotten around to planting Cosmos seeds yet but that’s ok because this one reseeded from last year has been a happy little surprise, and the first to bloom. I love the pink lining on the edges 🩷 I always love to see the variation that comes from last year’s seeds. I’m not great about labeling, so I always get a mixture full of surprises.

I’ve been experimenting with using different native flowers and foliage in arrangements and I’m really loving how the Joy Pye greenery and Penstemon Blackbeard look together. Purple and green is a favorite combination of mine.

The Rattlesnake Master and Prickly Pear have buds this year!!! 🎉 I got it them as seedlings 2 years ago so I’m very excited to see blooms! The cone flower is blooming too!

I also have seedlings coming up - Marigold, carrots, and cucumbers have all made their appearance.

Everything has exploded in quickly and I’m trying to soak it all in. We’re about to finally get some spring rain, so I’m sure it will all look completely different in another week. I’m not sure when I’m going to plant the rest of my seeds but I’m thankful for the rain we can get!

I went to a plant swap this weekend so I’ve been researching my new plants. Here are some of my notes and pics of the new babies. I’m especially excited for the Frostweed and Garlic Chives. Frostweed creates really neat frost “flowers” in the fall that I’ve only seen on hikes in the woods. Hoping I can get it to do well so I can enjoy them in my garden too!

A little recap of the last month(ish) in my garden!

I’ve been feeling pretty overwhelmed with life and to-do lists and timelines. The garden waits for no one though, and she’s been growing like crazy! I need to remember to slow down and enjoy more of my time outside instead of always running through lists in my head. The garden is full of peace and inspiration if I stop long enough to listen.

Watching the garden wake up and turn green makes me so excited for everything to come! 🌱

My winter sown babies are stretching their legs now that I’ve taken the tops off any that have germinated. Some are still taking their sweet time coming up, but almost every warm day brings a new seedling!

With the warm weather we’ve been having, I’ve noticed lots of volunteers popping up throughout the garden. Lots of cosmos, marigolds, and sunflowers. I found a group of sunflower seedlings that will eventually be in the way, so I decided to try to transplant them. They were pretty easy to separate since the soil was wet, so I distributed them into my raised beds and we’ll see what happens!

I wanted to check on my snapdragon roots so I pulled them out of the pot. There are so many babies in that one clump - I definitely didn’t expect such good germination. I separated a few of them to stick in a raised bed just to see how they’ll do.

My yard got the message that spring has arrived!
Every time I turn around something new pops up to be excited about! I’m so happy to see the flowers and sunshine again. There was even a bee in the house today so I think that makes it official! Now I’m just waiting on my tulips to bloom 🌷

Enjoying them while they last! ✨
