I tested three different night hyperlapse workflows and combined them into one video to compare stability, distortion, and motion feel.
Here’s the exact process I use to create a clean, cinematic hyperlapse from the DJI Air 3S in DaVinci Resolve:
1. Shoot in Hyperlapse → Free mode
Fly a straight path (no yaw, no orbit), stay high enough to avoid foreground parallax, and lock exposure manually.
2. Import the hyperlapse sequence into Resolve
Resolve reads it as a single clip — no need to manually assemble frames.
3. Apply light noise reduction first
Night footage benefits from subtle temporal NR before any stabilization.
4. Pre-crop 5–10%
This gives the stabilizer room to move without bending edges.
5. Stabilize only if needed
Use Similarity or Translation mode — never Perspective — to avoid warping buildings or horizons.
6. Color grade last
Balance exposure, control highlights from streetlights, and keep contrast natural so the motion feels smooth instead of artificial.
Hyperlapse is less about smoothing everything and more about controlling geometry so the motion feels intentional.
Which version do you prefer — the in-drone processing or the custom post workflow?
