2020 - what a crazy year! I’ve grown to be patient, learned how to rest, when to say no, when to work hard, and many other things. This year definitely didn’t turn out to be what we all hoped it to be, but it highlighted so many things that needed to be discussed, exposed, healed, learned, and forgiven. Despite all the craziness, I was able to work on 100+ different projects for clients (shot and edited over 200+ videos), produced over 20+ teaching content, released 4 new filmmaking products, grew my passive income sources, and established new strategies to growing my business. I got married, watched my friends get engaged and married, got a dog, upgraded my camera gear, worked with some dream clients, grew my production company to 6-figures, and many other exciting things. I’ve been beyond blessed with new opportunities and hope to continue growing in 2021. I definitely want to go into this new year with my head up, and I’d like that for you too! Did you know that “Emily-Stripped” was shot entirely on the iPhone 11 + moment lenses? Yes, it’s not just a myth, it’s the truth. It sounds sort of silly saying that I was the DP for a video that was shot on an iPhone but it was actually an eye opening experience. With the correct lighting and subject matter (thanks to , a wonderful gaffer), you can really shoot some amazing footage. I used the app to properly expose each scene by adjusting frame rate, exposure (shutter + ISO) and WB. The app also has a feature where you can shoot on a flatter color profile so color grading can be easier in post. But even with the right lighting and setting, the iPhone only has around 10 stops of dynamic range, so recovering certain spots in the footage was impossible. Also all the camera movement was done with a Ronin-S. At the beginning of the project, I was hesitant to shoot on a smart phone, but I hope that this video proves that you can shoot entire projects on your smartphones! It’s easy to get caught up with the type of camera or lens you’re shooting on but I’m glad that as technology continues to advance, things have become more and more affordable and results are getting better each time. https://instagr.am/p/B_k2lWbpkXa/

Today feels like that meme that says everyday between December 25th to New Years Eve feels like Sunday and then reality hits on Jan 2nd. But I’m so excited for this year and all things to come. I know it’s going to be especially different than any other year, and been able to already make some headway with things on my to-do list for #2020 ______ Something that said in his podcast today was, “it’s comforting to use someone else’s priorities to guide our work. It lets us off the hook. But the only way to do our best work is to realize that part of what it means to do our work is to own the priorities as well. Your boat, your compass.” I love that!
