Transforming lives since 1984.

Having experienced the power of music in his own life, Dr. William Oscar Smith (1917-1991) dreamed of offering music instruction to children from low-income families so it might change their lives also. In 1984, this dream became a reality when the W.O. Smith Music School first opened its doors. Since then, thousands of at-risk children in the metropolitan Nashville area have been introduced to the world of music. Located in the historic Edgehill neighborhood, W.O. Smith serves over 500 students annually with the support of over 200 volunteer teaching artists from the community.
