The Muskogee County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Management plus EMS and other agencies have responded to a house and shed fire just NE of Nuskogee along Hwy 16. The fire is under control and almost out as authorities work the scene. There is no word on injuries or fatalities. We will update the story as soon as we have new information.

We now have a Flash Flood Watch from the National Weather Service in Tulsa. I am concerned with some areas receiving upwards to 5 inches of rain. Please be weather aware. If you live in areas that usually flood... please prepare just in case. With these storms there is no way to tell where the heaviest rain will fall so please be prepared. Here comes another severe weather event. Be weather aware overnight tonight through tomorrow. My main concern with this event is the amount of rainfall. Muskogee could see heavy rain and the ground is saturated already so I’m hoping we avoid flooding. If you live or travel through flood proned areas please prepare and be weather aware. Morning update: Storms are continuing to move through NE Oklahoma. None of the storms are severe at this point. Some storms are bringing heavy rain. Always tune to 2 News Oklahoma Weather and Okie Country 101.7 for the latest weather updates.

Some folks are worried about the weather in the morning. I always suggest being weather aware and to never underestimate weather potential. Muskogee/Wagoner and all of Okie Country has severe weather potential for in the morning. There will be strong storms and even severe storms but tornado potential is very low. This will not be a major event so don’t lose sleep tonight. Tune to 2 News Weather and Okie Country 101.7 for updates. Get some sleep and expect storms as you wake up and head to work.

While we dodged the bullet on wide spread high winds… some areas were dealing with downed trees this morning from last nights storm. Robin Jim in Eufaula woke up to large trees snapped into two. What a mess.

The storm system is moving through with little to to no severe weather. Some thunder, lightning and rain, some wind in areas but the system is moving through below severe limits. I’ll continue to monitor this system until it moves out of Oklahoma. I’ll let you know if the situation changes but I don’t expect it to. 2 News Weather Chief Meteorologist Mike Collier KJRH says Derecho is possible overnight tonight. He says 80 MPH wind is possible from 4-7 am across our area. Our last Derecho brought severe wind damage in Muskogee and our area. Batten down the hatches and be prepared for a significant weather event overnight. Stay informed with 2 News Weather and Okie Country 101.7. I pray that we can dodge the bullet on this one. Be aware and prepared.

Congrats to Leslie Quemado an elementary school teacher at Tony Goetz Elementary for being the first ever "Okie Country 101.7 Teacher of the Year". She was recognized for displaying attention, compassion and extra effort to reach and help all children regardless of social or economic class. She goes above and beyond. Her passion is education and it shows in everything she does. It was a pleasure having on the morning show and I loved delivering a beautiful bouquet created by Bebb's Flowers in Muskogee to her today! Thank you for all that you do Leslie Quemado!
