Five things every couple can do to ensure you get great wedding photos:
1) THIS ONE IS HUGE! Be present. Sink into every moment. Embrace every feeling. When you show up, emotion translates to your portraits, and the images are captivating.
2) Hire a planner or day of coordinator to handle the logistics of the wedding day. This way you (and your mom) get to be present and actually enjoy yourselves. You don't have to worry about queuing the DJ or moving chairs. Instead, you'll have more time for the photos you care about- like you hugging your Dad right before he walks you down the aisle. A few of my favorite planner are .ownbyevents and
3) Don't skip on reception photography coverage. It's tempting to steam roll all the festivities during the reception, follow that up with a fake exit early on, and then send the photographer on their way. Usually this is done to reduce cost, but I'm here to tell you, some of the BEST photos happen during the last two hours of the reception after everyone has truly relaxed and is in party mode.
4) Have your guests wear a specific color palette that coordinate with your wedding design so everyone and everything is cohesive in the images. No one sticks out like a sore thumb or is distracting in any way. A few suggestions would be black and white theme, champagne and khaki, or multiple shades of one color. I recommend asking all guests to adhere to the theme, but at minimum ask the family to coordinate for family portraits.
5) Hire a photographer that is experienced and someone you feel comfortable with. Work with them before your wedding day to truly put them to the test. A simple engagement session is a great way to do this. Someone experienced will be able to pivot in a moments notice if things come up unexpectedly on your wedding day. And if you feel comfortable with them, you will trust them completely and will be much more relaxed and able to be present on your wedding day. Again, bringing me back to tip number one.
