The White Violet is a NJ floral design studio specializing in professionally designed faux floral arrangements created using high quality, realistic botanicals. Hi I'm Sue, the artist behind The White Violet, a boutique floral business specializing in one of a kind, hand crafted, faux flower arrangements. Launched in 2018, The White Violet has given me the opportunity to turn my lifelong passion f

or flowers, nature, and whimsy into something real that others can enjoy. I design for both individual and corporate clients, from small desktop sized arrangements to large pieces for lobbies and storefronts. I also teach hands on floral workshops where participants can learn how to design their own floral arrangements that they can then take home. As an experienced floral artist, having both trained and worked in floral design, my goal is to create floral decor that is both beautiful and long lasting. By using high quality faux, preserved and sola wood materials, I am able to create floral decor pieces that meet these goals and more. Every floral stem utilized in my designs are hand selected for their quality, uniqueness and visual interest. When choosing materials to work with I not only consider quality and aesthetic appeal, but also whether or not the material is eco-friendly and sustainable. My goal is to incorporate sustainable, VOC and toxin free, vintage and/or recycled components, in some form, into each of my designs and/or packaging, as I believe it is important to create mindfully. Please see my website @ https://www.thewhitevioletnj.com/ for more information, including photos of my work and to inquire about custom orders.

Today I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my journey as not only a faux florist, but a small business owner.

I started The White Violet in September of 2019 for many reasons, and the past 7 years have brought both personal and professional growth, frustration, excitement, and opportunities. Looking back at what started as an idea and a love for mason jars has developed into a desire to bring faux floristry into homes and businesses alike, and share the craft with others through hands on floral workshops.

As a small business owner I've learned how to navigate social media (a bit), develop a website & take my own product photos (still learning), rebrand, do my books, market my business, and ride out dips in the economy when spending on nice to have things just isn't a priority for people. I've seen faux flowers flood big box stores from Pottery Barn to Target, and everything in between.

But I believe I offer something different, which is personalized service only a small business can offer. I hand select every single stem used in my florals. I use florist first design principles to create as a fresh florist would, utilizing proper floral mechanics to make sure that every piece leaving my studio is built to last for years to come. I refuse to use faux florals that look like plastic or have an unnatural color. My goal is to create something that looks natural and believable, something you want to display. As many of you know I was hired by Barnes & Noble Booksellers as one of their primary freelance designers to create installations for their new store openings nationwide. It has been a privilege to work with them these past few years as they rebrand and relaunch!

Last but not least, I do love to teach! Workshops take place a few times a year, by request for groups of 8 - 40. These are fun, interactive, hands on events where I walk you through the principles of floral design and teach you how to create your own floral masterpiece. I am hoping to pivot my business a bit in the coming year so that workshops occur more regularly hosted directly via The White Violet. Goals!

Here's hoping for another 7+ years of floral design!

She’s really very pretty!

Faux pink peonies, cream ranunculus, and gorgeous deep red sweet alyssum balance one another so nicely in this accent sized compote arrangement. The greenery accents add some nice movement and interest. Zoom view so you can see just how realistic the flowers and greenery looks!

There’s something about a romantic floral arrangement that makes it almost impossible to walk by without stopping for a moment. Soft peonies, garden roses, ranunculus, jasmine, scabiosa, and delicate armeria are layered together in a way that feels freshly gathered from an old, beautiful, garden.

And yes… they’re faux.

The goal is never to make flowers look “fake but pretty.” It’s to study natural flower form, movement, color variation, and texture so closely that the arrangement still feels alive long after fresh flowers would have faded.

Available upon request and later today in my ETSY shop.

Real touch roses that really impress! These blush roses look AND feel real and are one of my favorites to work with. They are a long stem rose variety, with hyper realistic stems (thorns included!) that would look just as stunning in a grouping in a tall glass vase as they do in a floral arrangements.

High quality faux is out there - you just need to take the time to source pieces that are truly realistic.

I’m excited to announce my new “Bookseller” line, something I’ve been thinking about for a long time! 📚🌷

As many of you know I am a freelance designer for Barnes & Noble and have been creating retail installations for their new store openings for several years now. The flowers and greenery I use are favorites I come back to for so many reasons - their colors, their realistic look, the quality - and most importantly, how they work together to create a beautiful, natural floral centerpiece that is versatile enough to work in every store, no matter the location or style.

Now, for the first time ever, I’m creating a series of pieces that will be affectionately called my “bookseller” line. What this means is that the same gorgeous permanent botanicals I use for Barnes & Noble will be used to create smaller, more approachable pieces for home use.

More to come, but it was time I announced this exciting new line!

Want a bookseller piece created just for you? Just reach out to get started. Customs typically take 2-3 weeks to complete and I ship nation wide.

Roses, peonies, allium, bells of Ireland & more are used in each retail piece for Barnes & Noble. For the first time ever I’ve decided to create what I affectionately call the “Bookseller” line.

Imagine table arrangements, wreaths, and accent florals composed with the same florals and greenery that I use for these stunning retail pieces. Just in a more home friendly size.

Keep an eye out over the next few weeks as I explore the different sizes and shapes of this new product line. Want something sooner? Just reach out to inquire about having a bookseller piece custom made just for your space.

Time got away from me this week, and I realized I had nothing on the door for Easter!

I found this wreath at HomeGoods and brought it home, but it felt a little too uniform.

A few added stems - some greenery and soft pink and yellow tulips - gave it the movement it was missing, and it feels much more tailored to my space.
